DriveRightData is promoting its parc data as “the ultimate forecasting tool for the tyre professional”. According to the company, the strength of its system is that it matches “accurate and comprehensive reports on the number of vehicles in a territory…to DriveRightData’s unique tyre information”. Available in 77 countries and collated from national registration databases, the combination is only said to be supplied by DriveRightData.

Nokian Tyres and Valtra have set the world record for snow removal with an autonomous tractor. The speed record was set in March 2018 using an unmanned Valtra T254 Versu tractor equipped with Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI tyres. Operated without a driver, the tractor ploughed snow on a closed road in Southern Finland at 73.171 km/h (45.466 mph).

Continental has announced a voluntary exchange programme for 1,650 size 215/60R16 99H XL ContiPremiumContact 5 tyres. It is unclear whether UK consumers are affected by this voluntary recall – Continental says the tyre was shipped to various markets and names Germany, Austria, Finland, the Netherlands, Romania, Australia and New Zealand as countries where these tyres were sold, however other markets may have also received them.

The Maxxis Group’s first tyre factory in India opened in March. The facility in Gujarat state was set up with an investment of US$400 million and began operating with an initial daily capacity of 20,000 tyres and 40,000 tubes. Maxxis Rubber India shares that original equipment tyres have now begun to be shipped from the 43-hectare Sanand plant to Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), and it plans to supply one million tyres to its OEM partners by the end of the year. Furthermore, the tyre maker intends to complement its recently-opened plant with five additional factories in India that will produce tyres for other segments.

Bridgestone Americas’ Aiken, South Carolina, passenger and light truck tyre and its Aiken OTR tyre plants have been accepted into the South Carolina Environmental Excellence Program (SCEEP) for their recycling, conservation and community support. SCEEP, a programme highlighting outstanding workplace environmental improvement, is implemented through the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. SCEEP was designed to recognize and reward South Carolina facilities that have demonstrated superior environmental performance through pollution prevention, energy and resource conservation, and the use of an environmental management system.

Under Linglong Tire’s ‘5+3’ strategy, the company aims to establish three tyre factories around the world in addition to five facilities in China. The tyre maker’s first international plant was inaugurated in Thailand in 2014, and yesterday Linglong Tire announced its Board of Directors’ approval of plans to build a second in Serbia. Construction of a new facility 30 miles north of Belgrade is expected to commence in the first half of next year and ultimately give Linglong Tire an annual capacity of 13.62 million tyres in Europe. The project involves an investment of US$994.39 million.

Pirelli’s Middle East tyre retail operation has adopted Groove Grove technology as a way of improving its service offer. According to local news reports, Groove Grove was created by Tire Profiles, a partner of MAHA Maschinenbau Haldenwang GmbH & Co., the German supplier of high-end garage and vehicle inspection equipment. Using the technology, motorists can get tyre-related information, including suspension, pressure, alignment, wear and tear and replacement recommendations. The technology also has the capability to calculate the tread depth of the major grooves on a tyre to a tenth of a millimetre.
