Toyo partners European Athletics Indoor Championships 2019
Following their successful participation in the European Athletics Championships in Berlin, Toyo Tires have extended their partnership to their next premier event, the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow. The 35th edition of the European Indoor Championships, taking place from March 1 to 3, are the pinnacle of this year’s European Athletics program. Elite athletes have the chance to compete in the most important European Athletics event in 2019 and become the new European Indoor Champion. More than 600 athletes from 50 nations will participate at the Emirates Arena.

Research conducted in the USA and commissioned by Goodyear Auto Service and Just Tires found that while 88 per cent of young drivers can correctly identify the eye-roll emoji, only 51 per cent recognized the TPMS warning symbol.

Conti pioneers driverless tyre tests
Continental commissioned the first driverless tyre test vehicle for a wide range of road surface types at its Ulvade, Texas test track on 19 December 2018. The aim is to make the test results for Continentals passenger and light truck tyres more conclusive and minimize the impact of the test procedure on the results. The new test vehicle is based on Continentals automated Cruising Chauffeur, which was developed for freeways.

Icelandic-American expedition team Expeditions7 when drove from the southern coast of Greenland to the land’s northernmost spot and back. One of the team’s special vehicles built by Arctic Trucks was equipped with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 44 tyres, which are tailored what the Finnish tyre maker calls “real winter”. On the slowest legs of the journey, the vehicles could only manage 10 kilometres per hour and the lowest recorded temperatures were -40 degrees Celsius!

Guy Heywood named Hankook Tire Europe truck tyre marketing director
Hankook Tire Europe has appointed Guy Heywood as the new marketing and strategy director for its European truck and bus business. Heywood has 20 years of experience in the tyre industry in leadership positions, most recently active as the commercial director for Michelin UK and Truck, Bus and Service director for the company’s North Europe area. Heywood is taking over from Seok Yun Kim who relocated to Hankook’s organisation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where he has become managing director.

Pirelli opens fourth branch of P Zero World tyre boutique concept in Dubai
Pirelli has opened a fourth branch of its tyre boutique retail concept P Zero World on a third continent. The store follows previous openings in Los Angeles, Munich and Monte-Carlo. More than 60 supercars belonging to local collectors formed a parade through the city to mark the Dubai opening. The following day more than 200 cars took to the track at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi for the P Zero Experience: Pirelli’s track day event.

The W Series Hankook as its official tyre partner for its inaugural season (2019), commencing at Hockenheim (Germany) in May. The W Series is a free-to-enter single-seater motor racing series for women drivers only, with a top prize of US$500,000 for the winner and a total prize fund of US$1.5 million. As the new partner of the W Series, Hankook will provide the series with its high-end racing tyre, the Ventus Race (F200 slick and Z217 wet), in sizes VA 230/560-13 and HA 280/580-13.

Regarding tyre technology it found that 73 per cent of Americans would like to see future tyres self-inflate as part of a smart self-regulating Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Further, 44 per cent of respondents expressed interest in a self-repairing tyre.
