New high for Linglong’s brand awareness
Linglong Tire shares that its brand value has reached a new high of RMB 45.369 billion (£5.2 billion). This news follows the release of World Brand Lab’s list of China’s 500 Most Valuable Brands 2019 at the World Brand Summit. At the summit, which took place in Beijing on 26 June, Linglong was honoured as the 116th most valuable brand in China.

Brembo is lining up a “significant size” acquisition, even as large as the brake maker itself. Local newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore quoted Brembo executive vice-president matteo tiraboschi as saying that the company is looking for potential targets outside Italy, especially in Europe and the US and even China: It must a healthy company of a certain size - with good numbers, technology and R&D - that fits our business”.

In 2016 Triangle Tyre completed its initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Back then Triangle’s top management promised that the company would invest in expanding its position in key markets – including Europe. Sure enough, in 2017 a new European leadership team was appointment and shortly afterwards a new European headquarters was opened in Milan. But around the same time, European anti-Chinese truck tyre import duties were also introduced. For many companies this meant the end of Chinese truck tyre business in tariff areas. So how has Triangle faired in this adverse business climate? Nearly two years after their appointment, Tyres & Accessories caught up with Triangle executives Corrado Moglia, general manager – Europe; Angelo Giannangeli, European marketing director; and Mirco Spiniella, business development director Europe in order to answer that question.

Rubber growers in India’s Kerala state are guarding themselves against potential slumps in natural rubber prices by forming a producer company that will manufacture tyres for two- and three-wheel vehicles. The Integrated Rubber Farmer Producer Company Ltd (IRFPC) was registered last November. The Pala-based company is being financed in part by a share float open to rubber farmers, and is also being assisted by German NGO the Andreas Hermes Akademie.

Kumho has developed a 20-inch commercial vehicle tyre in 45 profile, a product it calls a world first. The manufacturer will supply the PorTran KC53 in size 245/45R20C 115/113R to Hyundai as original equipment on the Solati Limousine. The minibus was originally shod with 16 inch tyres, with a number of tyre manufacturers tasked with increasing the tyre size prior to Kumho satisfying the car manufacturer’s needs.

The pitch material, called PRO-gran, is being used across four continents since its launch in 2017. Continental has inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art rubber compound mixing facility at its tyre plant in Alor Setar Malaysia. The tyre maker invested more than MYR 65 million (£10.6 million) in the 3,200 square metre facility at the Alor Setar factory, which produces two-wheeler, car and light commercial vehicle tyres for the domestic and APAC region markets. Its entry into operation is expected to lead to increased capacity and flexibility.

At its annual general meeting this month, Russian tyre maker PJSC Nizhnekamskshina reported that it produced more than 11 million tyres in 2018. In addition to supplying the aftermarket and domestic OEMs such as Volkswagen Group Rus, Ford Sollers Holding, UAZ and GAZ Automobile Works, Nizhnekamskshina tyres were exported to 38 countries during the year.

JK Tyre & Industries has entered the Limca Book of Records – India’s answer to Guinness World Records – for having the country’s largest OTR tyre. This colossus is the VEM 045, a tyre that in size 40.00-57 stands 12 feet tall and weighs around 3.4 tons. JK Tyre introduced this specific tyre dimension as a fitment for India’s biggest rigid dump truck, a vehicle with a payload capacity of up to 240 tons.
