Sentury achieves rapid growth in 2023
2023 was a year of rapid growth for Sentury. The tyre manufacturer’s annual report showed that its revenue and net profit reached 7.84 billion yuan (about £860 million; €1 billion) and 1.37 billion yuan (about £150 million; €170 million), both have achieved a growth of more than 20 per cent compared with 2022.

In February 2024, directors of Maxxis visited the rulers of the Ukanku Community in the Ukwa East region of Nigeria. According to local Nigerian media Business Day, Maxxis executives inspected the land where they were “preparing to build a tyre factory.” Another media outlet, The Cable, stated that Maxxis announced “plans” to build a local tyre manufacturing plant.

The Aeolus giant tyre project has completed all approval procedures and is expected to start construction in June 2024. The project is in Aeolus’ western factory in Jiaozuo. It plans to build a new production plant and power station and add giant tyre building and vulcanisation equipment. The construction period of the project is 24 months. After completion, it will be able to add 20,000 giant engineering radial tyre production capacity every year.

New research has revealed the European countries using electric vehicles the most, with Norway coming out on top. The study by electronic registration portal Vignettecroatia.com analysed the latest 2022 data from Eurostat, to see which European countries had the highest percentage of electric vehicles. It found that Norway is leading the way for electric vehicle use in Europe, with a whopping 20.12 per cent of all vehicles being electric. As of the latest 2022 data, there are 3,018,728 registered vehicles in the country, of which 607,516 are electric-powered.

Goodyear Farm Tires has created a new Low Sidewall Technology Development Centre in France to “provide its UK and European …customers with improved access to one of the most innovative products on the market”, according to the company. The French HQ of Titan International – which re-introduced Goodyear Farm Tires to the European market in 2019 – has been scheduled to begin the manufacturing and customisation of wheels for the exclusive LSW wheel and tyre assemblies at the start of April. Previously, all production and assembly of LSW products took place in the USA.

A consulting agreement with Swedish firm GreenTech Recycling Tires AB gives Pyrum Innovations AG its first point of entry into the Scandinavian market. On the proviso that GreenTech’s financing is fully secured, Pyrum will invest up to 3 million euros in a joint venture SPV (special purpose vehicle) to build a pyrolysis recycling plant capable of processing 20,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres annually.

During a ceremony held in China on 6 March, TÜV SÜD Group acknowledged Prinx Chengshan with certification that will “serve as a milestone” to “accelerate” the tyre maker’s entry into the European market. The certification agency awarded Prinx Chengshan the VECTO-based (EU) 2017/2400 carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption certification for three commercial vehicle tyre models sold in Europe under the Fortune and Austone brand names – AR 603, TH 135 and TH 155.

The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. is supplying its Geolandar A/T G94 tyres as original equipment (OE) on the new Triton pickup truck, launched by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in February 2024 in Japan. The Triton was introduced to the Japanese market about 12 years and is being fitted with 265/60R18 110H size tyres. The new Triton was launched in Thailand in July 2023, in the Philippines in January 2024, and in Australia and New Zealand in March 2024, and will be successively launched in approximately 100 countries around the world.
