Point S partner acquires Nokian’s Vianor US operation
Nokian Tyres has sold its Vianor US business to Oregon-based Point S member Gills Point S Tire. The transaction covers ten Vianor service centres, with all current Vianor US service centre employees will be taken on by Gills Point S Tire & Auto Service.

Across the Atlantic, Chinese tyre manufacturer Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group Rubber (trading under its Duraturn brand name) is recalling thousands of Duraturn Travia A/T tyres in a move that could see as many as 33,466 products returned. The recall has been called due to manufacturing issues which could result in the separation of the tread or inner-liner from the tyre.

Tyrexpo Asia 2021 is due to open in almost seven months’ time in March 2021. The show’s organiser Tarsus says businesses are “looking for a platform for recovery,” and so far the Singapore event for the international tyre market has attracted more than a hundred exhibitors. Exhibitors will include Stamford Tyres International (Singapore); Deestone Corporation (Thailand); Goodtire Rubber Industrial (Taiwan); GB Tyres (UK); Sun Rubber Industry (Malaysia); Service Industries (Pakistan); and Middle East Tyre Center (UAE).

Speciality tyre manufacturer Maxam Tire has opened a new advanced and automated solid tyre production facility. It said the new facility represents “a major commitment to the speciality solid tyre segment.” Maxam added that the plant is “strategically aligned to better serve today’s market demands through compound advancement and automated technology.” Sources within the Sailun Group told Tyres & Accessories that the factory is located in Vietnam.

Hella and the Minth Group have announced a joint venture, which will be funded equally. The company, Hella Minth Jiaxing Automotive Parts Co. Ltd., will promote the development, production and marketing of radomes (absorbent covers for radar systems) and illuminated logos. It has a production facility in Jiaxing and will have an international scope, with an initial focus on the Chinese market. Subject to the approval of the relevant antitrust authorities, the joint venture is scheduled to start operations in Autumn 2020.

Located in the city of Varaždin (81 km from the Croatian capital, Zagreb), Gumiimpex’s achievement was recognised by retreading materials manufacturer Vipal Rubber, which has supplied the firm since 2010, with a plaque in recognition of the milestone. Presenting the plaque to Gumiimpex, Vipal said it recognises the importance of building a history; it has almost 47 years on the market itself.

Sailun Tire has entered into a partnership agreement with China’s Apex Motorsport. The deal, signed on 21 August by Apex Motorsport’s Jin Yi and Chen Zheng, deputy director of Sailun Motorsport, gives Apex global sales rights for Sailun Sports Tires including the full range of Sailun Gene R tyres. Sailun believes this agreement marks its “successful shift from the prosumer market to the consumer market following three years of racing events that put Sailun Tire products to various stringent tests.”
