Pirelli transforming former Ceat factory site into new warehousing centre
Pirelli is constructing a new tyre warehouse to serve its industrial hub at Settimo Torinese in partnership with BGO Logistic Fund 1, which is backed by investment from BentallGreenOak and managed by Kervis SGR SpA, with GSE Italis acting as general contractor. The project will redevelop the industrial area where the Ceat factory once stood near Pirelli’s industrial hub with a view to creating “greater efficiency and environmental benefits”. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2021.

Continental launches ContiConnect Live
Continental is launching ContiConnect Live, a digital tyre pressure monitoring solution designed to complement ContiPressureCheck and ContiConnect Yard. With ContiConnect Live, the collected data on tyre pressure and temperature are sent in real time to the cloud using a central telematics unit. In addition, the unit transmits the vehicles location using GPS and records the operating hours of the tyres. Fleet managers have a quicker and more comfortable overview of the condition of the vehicles regardless of their location. By evaluating the information, the fleet benefits from reduced downtime, lower maintenance costs and an extended operating time.

Tarsus Group introduces Tyrexpo Asia Thailand
The BITEC exhibition venue in Bangkok will host a Tyrexpo Asia event in Thailand from 2022. According to the event organisers, Tarsus Group, the idea is to keep running the existing Tyrexpo Asia Singapore exhibition during odd years and introduce the Bangkok edition during even years. As a result, there will be a Tyrexpo Asia event running annually. The inaugural Bangkok edition will be run 27-29 April 2022 roughly five months after Tyrexpo Asia Singapore, which is scheduled for 17-19 November 2021.

Linglong Tire brought its Hubtrac brand to market in October 2020. The release will see more than 150 stock-keeping units (SKUs) launched in European market in stages. The new brand will be produced at Linglong’s global production bases including its Thailand and Serbia plants. The European market-orientated range has been designed with the forthcoming 2021 tyre labelling update and enhanced retreadability in mind.

Titan International has completed the sale of its tyre manufacturing plant in Brownsville, Texas facility to an affiliate of commercial real estate firm Phoenix Investors. The one million square feet plant was built in 1997 on 108 acres, and Titan ended tyre production in 2003. It has since leased the site to multiple tenants.

US tyre shipments significantly better than feared
The November tyre shipments forecast by the US Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) has significantly upgraded its 2020 estimates. It projects a total of 298.3 million units by the end of 2020, nearly 19 million units more than the association predicted in July. The new forecast also takes more than a third off the July forecast’s deficit against the 332.7 million units shipped in 2019. The USTMA said the figures reflect “industry resilience in the face of unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd (SRSA), manufacturer of the Dunlop, Sumitomo and Falken tyre brands for the African continent, has announced the appointment of Lubin Ozoux as its new CEO and Executive Director of SRSA effective 1 January 2021. Ozoux will take over the role from outgoing CEO, Riaz Haffejee who has led the company for the past eight years. Haffejee will remain with the company until the 31 January 2021 to “ensure a smooth transition”.
