Pirelli recalls over 3000 motorbike tyres in America
In the USA, Pirelli has recalled 3100 Pirelli and Metzeler-branded motorbike tyres due to manufacturing issue that could result in tread separation. 100 per cent of the 150/70 R18 M/C 70V Metzeler Tourance Next; 150/70 R18 M/C 70V Metzeler Tourance Next II; 150/70 R18 M/C 70W Metzeler Tourance Next II; and 150/70 R18 M/C 70V Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres produced between a total production period that covers a maximum range of 30 November 2016 to 11 June 2024 are said to be affected.

US-based automotive service equipment firm Hunter Engineering is partnering with AI computer vision specialist Skaivision to integrate AI technology into Hunter’s Quick Check Drive inspection equipment. By using Skaivision technology, the Quick Check Drive unit’s cameras will gain the ability to identify number plates as vehicles enter the service lane. The plate number is then automatically matched to customer records, starting the clock to track service cycle times accurately.

Indian tyre maker Ceat Limited has announced its unaudited results for the second quarter of its 2024-25 financial year, which ended on 30 September 2024. On a consolidated basis, the Company’s revenue closed at Rs 33.30 billion (£304.78 million), EBITDA margin stood at 11.1 per cent, a contraction of 102 bps vs Q1 FY24-25. Net profit stood at Rs 1.21 billion (£11.19 million).

Approximately 220 employees of wheel maker BBS Autotechnik in Germany received their redundancy notices in the post yesterday. The redundancies apply to all workers save for a team of 16 who will continue to work to wind up the firm. Insolvency administrator Dr Dirk Pehl previously announced that needed to make all but a few employees redundant, but notifications couldnt be sent out until various agreements between the employer and the BBS works council were approved and notification of large-scale redundancies submitted to Germany’s state employment agency (Agentur für Arbeit).

Both the petrol and electric versions of the all-new Dodge Charger and Challenger muscle cars will wear all-season Nexen NFera AU7 tyres. Announcing the arrangement, Nexen Tire’s Global CEO, Travis King said: “Supplying OE tyres for such iconic vehicles in American automotive history is a remarkable achievement. We will continue to enhance our brand value by expanding OE tyre supply for premium vehicles through ongoing R&D and quality improvement efforts.”

Doublestar’s board of directors has approved a transaction plan to control Kumho. Specifically, the company plans to purchase assets by issuing shares and paying cash and ultimately achieve the goal of indirectly holding 45 per cent of Kumho’s shares and becoming Kumho’s controlling shareholder. Prior to this, Doublestar’s controlling shareholder, Doublestar Group, and several other Chinese companies jointly held this part of the equity. In other words, Doublestar can officially manage Kumho’s operations after this transaction.

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has approved an additional US$400 million investment by Continental Tyres (Thailand) Co. Ltd. in the firm’s Rayong production base. According to BOI, the funds are for the expansion of tyre production in the country, boosting output to 7.8 million tyres per year. Of course, BOI officials also noted that such an investment consolidates “Thailands status as the World’s second largest tyre production base”.
