Work starts on Tatneft’s JV plant in Kazakhstan
Construction of Tatneft’s new joint venture tyre plant in Kazakhstan has commenced with the installation of the first concrete pillar at the site in Saran. Workers are driving in piles parallel to laying foundations in order to ensure the project’s completion on schedule, and Tatneft anticipates it will inaugurate the factory at the end of next year.

Hankook Tire and Apollo Tyres are the latest tyre manufacturers to align their natural rubber procurement policies with the framework adopted by the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) in September 2020. Indian firm Apollo has released its first natural rubber policy document, while South Korea’s Hankook has updated the policy it introduced in 2018. Earlier this week, Yokohama Rubber announced it had altered its natural rubber procurement policy to accommodate the GPSNR policy framework.

Balkrishna Industries Ltd., manufacturer of the BKT tyre brand, reports that it recently commenced trial production at the greenfield project on the ‘F-20’ plot, a nine-hectare site near its current Waluj, Maharashtra plant. The facility has an installed capacity of 30,000 tonnes as well as warehousing for raw materials and finished goods. The tyre maker adds that the planned “small cogeneration plant” hasn’t been installed at this point in time.

After new updates to Singapore’s Covid-19 response, Tarsus Southeast Asia has opted to move Tyrexpo Asia 2021 to a fully digital event format. The organiser had previously hoped to make the 17-19 November event a hybrid exhibition, with an in-person expo in the hall space running alongside digital elements over its three days. The Singapore Government’s latest updates have confirmed that event engagements will be significantly impaired, and strong travel restrictions remain in place, underlining the difficulties in hosting international events. Tarsus said it is partnering with a leading specialist in hybrid event platform management to present a highly professional virtual online show.

Thanking the EC for the chance to contribute to such a strategic topic for the automotive industry, the ETRMA called on the EC to publish “an ambitious legislative proposal on access to in-vehicle data” in the first quarter of 2022.

Research into the use of locally sourced rubber in tyre manufacture has led to Continental’s Dr Carla Recker being nominated for a prestigious award in her native Germany. Together with fellow researchers Prof. Dr Dirk Prüfer from the University of Münster and Dr Christian Schulze Gronover from the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME, Recker has been shortlisted for the ‘Deutscher Zukunftspreis 2021’, an award for technology and innovation bestowed by Germany’s President.

Falken has been awarded the Best Event Film at the 2021 International Motor Film Awards. The film ‘Whatever Comes Our Way’ was shot in September 2020, during what was probably the most unusual race in the almost 50-year history of the Nürburgring 24-hour race, with hardly any spectators lining the Nordschleife circuit. Another Falken production, ‘Pass the Wheel’, starring Peter Dumbreck in a classic Porsche 911 was also nominated for Best Journalistic Film.
