Extraordinary market conditions in sea freight are now expected to persist well into 2022, according to analysts. Meanwhile, long-haul air freight belly capacity is only expected to gradually return between 2022 and 2024. Of course, freight forwarders/shipping firms are the biggest winners in this scenario, with the same analysis produced by Jefferies further raising pre-tax profit (EBIT) estimates by 18 per cent on average in the sector for the 2021 full year and by 14 per cent in 2022.

(BTMT) has brought the first phase of its solar power generation project into operation at the Chonburi facility, with 2,160 solar panels installed on roofing delivering a total capacity of 1 MWp.

Ceat: Higher input costs squeezing margins
Tyre maker Ceat Limited, the flagship subsidiary of India’s RPG Group, reports that its net revenue increased 23.9 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of its financial year, the three months to 30 September 2021, to Rs 24.52 billion (£237.51 million). Despite growing revenues, EBITDA shrank from Rs 3.06 billion to 2.25 billion (£21.79 million), and the margin contracted 6.3 percentage points to 9.2 per cent. Net profit stood at Rs 420 million (£4.07 million).

End-of-life tyres: Nexolub to market oils from L4T facility
Life for Tyres (L4T) Group has signed a ten-year offtake agreement with Spanish base oils supplier Nexolub to market oils extracted from end-of-life tyres processed at the plant it is currently setting up in Puertollano, Spain. The L4T facility is scheduled to be completed in December and become operational the following month with an annual capacity of 27,000 tonnes – a quantity equivalent to eight per cent of the end-of-life tyres generated in the country each year – it will be one of the largest facilities of its type in Europe.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen opened up a 12-point gap at the top of the Formula 1 Drivers Championship after an intensely tactical two-stop race against Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton at Circuit of the Americas, Austin, Texas. Verstappen switched from the Pirelli P Zero Yellow medium tyre to the P Zero White hard tyre on lap 11, with a successful undercut to gain the lead from his rival, who stopped three laps later. Mario Isola – head of F1 and car racing at Pirelli said that the two drivers had used “exactly the same” pre-race tyre allocation in different ways to produce a “thrilling finale between two drivers absolutely on top of their game.”

Guinness World Records has acknowledged the Hankook Tire-supported ‘Volkswagen ID.4: Great Roadshow through the U.S.’ as the longest continuous journey by an electric vehicle (non-solar) in a single country. The 35,000-mile trip took place between 13 July and 18 October. The teams VW ID.4 visited all 48 contiguous US states in all-electric mode, thereby breaking the previous record that was set in 2019.
