Various news sources are reporting that South Korea’s Kumho Tire signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabia-based Blatco (Black Arrow Tire Co. as part of the Saudi-South Korean Business Forum on 18 January 2022. As many as 13 agreements were signed during the Saudi-South Korean Business Forum, of which 10 were signed by oil major Saudi Aramco.

Bugatti produced just 60 examples of the Chiron Pur Sport and fitted each and every one of these 1,500 hp, 217 mph hypercars with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres. Michelin supplies the semi-slick to Bugatti in the front axle size 285/30 R20 (99Y) and rear size 355/25 R21 (107Y). But after Bugatti observed cracks on the rear tyres fitted to a prototype Pur Sport, it is notifying owners to return their vehicles.

Trelleborg Wheel Systems (TWS) has confirmed a timetable of beginning volume two-wheeler tyre production at the SYAM Trelleborg Tires LLP joint venture factory “by early 2022” following the start of trial manufacturing last December. With the plant’s entry into operation, TWS looks forward to an increased production capacity of two-wheeler tyres that not only “contributes to consolidate market presence” in southeast Asia, a region where two-wheeled vehicles are in great demand, but also “augmenting motorcycle operations across Europe and North America.”

Indian manufacturer Ceat Limited intends to launch a range of truck radial tyres in Europe during the first half of this year. Speaking during an earnings call yesterday, managing director Anant Goenka said the range would arrive in “four to six months’ time” and further push the strong growth the company is already experiencing in the region. The line-up would be similarly positioned to the “Korean players” in the market, he added.

In response to local government environmental protection measures in the Yangtze River region and with the aim of establishing “one of the most modern NBR plants in the world,” Arlanxeo and TSRC are relocating their joint venture synthetic rubber facility. The move to a new location will be accompanied by an increase in NBR capacity from 30,000 to 40,000 tons per annum, growth that will support local demands and reinforce global supply.

As reported on 18 January, Apollo Tyres Ltd. has acquired a 27.2 per cent shareholding in a renewable energy firm, Cleantech Solar subsidiary CSE Deccan Solar. The tyre maker says the reason it did so is to gain a guaranteed annual supply of 40 million units of electricity for its manufacturing facility in Chennai. CSE Deccan Solar expects to begin delivering in July 2022, and this electricity will account for around 20 per cent of the plant’s total requirements and boost the total proportion of renewable energy to more than 30 per cent.

The latest European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) data suggest 2021 was “a positive year of recovery for the industry”, especially in the replacement sector. The biggest drop was in the Original Equipment (OE) consumer tyres segment (down 8 per cent) mainly due to the ongoing new vehicle chip shortage.

Nynas has settled payments to trade creditors with claims remaining, after receiving an initial payment of 100,000 Swedish krone each following the completion of Nynas’s company reorganisation in January 2021. According to a statement published by the speciality oil refiner and supplier on 19 January 2021, those actions are “in accordance with the composition agreement between all creditors and as decided by the District Court of Södertörn”.
