Nexen Tire Europe is raising the prices of “all of the companys brands in the replacement market”. The price increase is due to “the Ukraine-Russia conflict” and specifically “raw material prices such as carbon black, oil costs and freight and logistics costs”, which have all risen sharply, according to a Nexen statement issued today (13 April 2022).

War as a sales opportunity: Titan subsidiary increasing volumes in Russia
While other tyre makers are distancing themselves from Russia and moving production capacities elsewhere at present, Titan International Inc.’s subsidiary in Volzhsky, Volgograd Oblast has announced plans to increase its production volumes. Voltyre-Prom, which is majority owned and managed by the Illinois, USA-based off-highway tyre specialist, states that the current situation “opens up new opportunities” for it to increase production volumes and sales.

Michelin partnering in US hydrogen truck project
The California Energy Commission (CEC) has selected Symbio – the joint venture created by Michelin and Faurecia in 2019 with the aim of becoming a world leader in hydrogen mobility – to develop and demonstrate a hydrogen-fuelled, regional-haul Class 8 truck for a state-supported hydrogen mobility project. Symbio will collaborate on this project with Michelin, Faurecia and other industry partners, including energy transitions research and training organisation GTI.

ASTM International’s recovered carbon black (rCB) committee (D36) is developing a proposed standard for differentiating between various rCB products and providing quality control tool for producers and users. According to ATSM International member Pieter ter Haar, the voluntary consensus standards developer and implementer’s proposed WK81244 standard will aid the adoption of recovered carbon black produced from end-of-life tyres.

Nokian Tyres investing 106 million euros in new European factory
Nokian Tyres is expediting “plans to invest in new production capacity in Europe” in response to the sanctions against Russia, where the company has significant levels of tyre production. Specifically, Nokian’s board of directors will cut the dividend payable to shareholders by 106 million euros to fund the new capacity. Nokian Tyres will also increase capacity at its factories in Finland and the US with a view to becoming more geographically diversified in its manufacturing operations.

The Russia project was set to focus on sealing solutions.
