Pirelli runners take podium places on Rally Poland
Three different cars using Pirelli’s Scorpion gravel tyres took the podium places on Rally Poland, the latest round of the European Rally Championship. The Skoda Fabia of Mikolaj Marczyk led the Hyundai i20 R5 of Tom Kristensson and the Ford Fiesta Rally2 of Ken Torn. Each driver made the most of the reliability of the Pirelli Scorpion. Marczyk took the lead after Hyundai driver Nils Solans – also running Pirelli tyres – encountered problems on SS6, while Kristensson and Torn finished 13 seconds ahead of the fourth-placed crew. Pirelli said the highly variable conditions of the roads in Poland put the Scorpion tyres to a challenging test.

Goodyear recalls up to 173,237 G159 tyres
On 2 June 2022, Goodyear recalled up 173,237 model G159 tyres in the USA. The recall has been issued because “some size 275/70R 22.5 G159 tyres installed on motorhomes experienced tread separations”. However, this was not due to tyre manufacturing problems, but rather resulted “from the motorhome manufacturer inadequately specifying reserve loads, as well as overloading and underinflation common to the motorhome application”, according to official documents. The G159 is the subject of long-running legal action in the United States.

Hankook tyres help set altitude record
Hankook has been instrumental in setting a new Guinness World Records title with Challenge4 record-breaking driver Rainer Zietlow, in conquering the South American Andes. The all-electric vehicle reached a height of 5,816 metres up the Uturuncu volcano, which has two peaks reaching 6,008 and 5,930 metres. Zietlow set the new record on Hankooks new all-terrain tyre, the Dynapro AT2.

Following the successful takeover of Hella by Faurecia, the two companies made their first joint appearance at an automotive trade fair under the new, overarching umbrella brand Forvia. Hella and Faurecia, with around 150,000 employees, form the seventh-largest automotive supplier worldwide and one of the global market leaders in high-growth technology fields. At this years Automotive Engineering Exposition, which took place in Yokohama, Japan, from 25 to 27 May 2022 and is one of the leading industry trade fairs in the Asian region, they presented technologies for a safe, sustainable, advanced and customised mobility as part of a joint stand concept. The approximately 100 square metre stand was designed in the stylistic colours blue and white, which characterise the new brand identity of the Forvia umbrella brand. In total, around 1,000 customers, business partners and other guests visited the Forvia stand.
