IRSG collaborates to support research on rubber sustainability
The International Rubber Study Group (IRSG) believes there are “no sustainable alternatives” to natural rubber. In order to gain a greater understanding of how climate change economically and socially impacts this industry, IRSG has enhanced its collaboration with the Singapore Agri-Food Lab (SAIL) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). This collaboration may expand in future to focus on sustainability in the supply chain beyond the plantation.

Taylor: Titan team can handle whatever comes their way
Commenting on the “best ever” second quarter that Titan International, Inc. (TWI) reported this year, Morry Taylor has congratulated company president and chief executive officer Paul Reitz and his team on an “outstanding job.” He credits the team with results so good that “the Board of Directors expected that TWI stock would rise, instead of the 16 per cent drop that happened.” TWI has declined in value from US$16.29 per share on 25 August to $12.64 yesterday.

Canada’s Group Touchette completes NTD acquisition
On 7 September, American Tire Distributors (ATD) announced the completion of its Canadian subsidiary’s sale to Groupe Touchette, Canada’s largest locally-owned tyre distributor. By divesting the National Tire Distributors (NTD) business, the wholesaler says it is now “better positioned to serve its customers across the US” and to “invest in the enhanced innovation that is driving its transformation efforts.”

On 30 August 2022, Shanghai Huayi, the parent company of Double Coin Tire Group first half results showing the company generated revenue of 4.968 billion yuan (about £614 million, 719 million euros), and operating costs were 4.559 billion yuan (about £564 million, 660 million euros). Within that, the revenue of all-steel radial tyres and semi-steel radial tyres was 4.6 billion yuan (about £569 million, 666 million euros) and 368 million yuan (roughly £45.51 million, 53.25 million euros).

Bridgestone further expanding Bahia tyre plant
Through its local subsidiary Bridgestone Do Brasil Industria e Comercio Ltda, Bridgestone Corporation is once again increasing production capacity at the Bahia passenger car and light truck tyre plant in Brazil. Earlier today, the company said it would invest approximately BRL 270 million (£45.4 million) in this project; when combined with the capacity investment announced in July 2021, total investment in boosting Bahia plant capacity amounts to approximately BRL 970 million (£163.2 million).
