India: Review recommends China TBR duties for 3 more years
India’s anti-dumping duties on Chinese-made TBR tyres are scheduled to expire this month, but tyre association ATMA requested a review of these on behalf of Apollo Tyres, JK Tyre & Industries and MRF. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies published the results of this Sunset Review on 16 September, recommending the government continue charging duties for a further three years.

Norgesdekk to distribute Vredestein in Norway
From 1 October 2022, Apollo Tyres will stop direct sales of Vredestein tyres in Norway and transfer distribution to wholesaler Norgesdekk. The two parties have negotiated an exclusive distribution deal covering supply of Vredestein-brand passenger car, light truck and classic tyres. Apollo Tyres Nordic AB will continue to sell the company’s off-highway and truck/bus products in all Nordic markets.

Bridgestone expanding Abilene, USA Bandag plant
To meet demand driven by the rapid growth of its retread business, Bridgestone is investing US$60 million to expand its Bridgestone Bandag manufacturing plant in Abilene, USA. The project includes new mixing operations as well as an immediate shift to six and seven-day production schedules. The mixing facility will be operational by January 2025 and, together with the revised production cycle, will increase plant output by 16%.

The manufacturer is expanding its circular economy activities in 2022 with a new 5,000 tonne per annum tyre pyrolysis processing line as well as a Zhongce Recycling Technology production line that can produce 7,500 tonnes of liquid recycled rubber a year.

During the recent IAA 2022 truck event in Germany, Chinese tyremaker Prinx Chengshan released its TH155 truck tyre pattern. The new trailer hybrid, OE oriented tyre is described as having “outstanding overall performance”, something that is attested by its “A” and “B” ratings for wet grip and fuel consumption on the European tyre label (in 385/65 R22.5). The tyre will be marketed under the Austone ATH155 and Fortune FTH155 brand names.

Kumho’s Ecsta tyres cover 3,174 miles, 16 countries in Euro EV Marathon
Kumho Tyre (UK) supported the Max Adventure team as it beat its original time target on the Driven To Extremes Euro EV Marathon. The team covered its 3,174 mile-route from Oslo to Portugal in just 3.75 days in the fully electric Kia EV6 ‘Air’ fitted with Kumho’s Ecsta PS71 EV tyre. The team knocked 47 minutes off the time set by Sir Stirling Moss in 1952, adding an extra country to the list of those visited. The challenge was designed to show that a standard EV and current charging infrastructure can now allow drivers to cover vast distances in a short time. The Kumho Ecsta PS71 EV is an original fitment on the Kia EV6, with the 235/55R19 size used by the challenge car throughout the trial.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission reviewed and approved Sailun’s convertible bond public issuance application on 13 September. The tyre company plans to raise about 2 billion yuan (about 250.2 million pounds, 286.3 million euros), mainly for constructing two factories in Vietnam and Cambodia. Sailun said that investing in two overseas factories could further expand its tyre production capacity overseas and increase its manufacturing scale and market share.
