MRF: Profits halved thanks to unprecedented material cost rises
Indian tyre maker MRF Limited has reported a standalone income of Rs 193.04 billion (£2.03 billion) for the financial year ending 31 March 2022, a 19.7 per cent increase on the previous year’s result. Exports were slightly up, being valued at Rs 17.79 billion (£186.80 million), compared with Rs 13.33 billion for the prior financial year. Standalone net profit, however, dropped 48.2 per cent year-on-year to Rs 6.47 billion (£67.94 million).

Giti Tire to display 15-plus tyres at The Tire Cologne
Giti Tire will welcome visitors to Stand B-030-C-039 in Koelnmesse’s Hall 7 at The Tire Cologne (24-26 May) with its next generation Giti and GT Radial branded tyres on display. For passenger cars and SUVs, the manufacturer will show the GitiSynergyH2, GitiSportS2, GitiWinterW2 and the recently launched Giti4x4 AT71 all-terrain tyre, as well as the GT Radial FE2, SportActive 2 and WinterPro2 for the first time. It will also use the occasion of the return of Europe’s largest tyre expo to launch three new heavy duty truck tyres. More than 15 product lines will be housed on Giti’s stand, demonstrating both of its flagship ranges’ revamps over the past two years.

The Zhongce Rubber Group (ZC Rubber) was excluded from the list of applicable companies in the European Courts of Justice’s 4 May 2022 ruling annulling import tariffs against truck tyres produced in China. Reading the small print of the ruling reveals why. The initial ruling didn’t completely apply to ZC Rubber and so action against it couldn’t be annulled. In other words, the latest anti-dumping annulment is inadmissible for ZC Rubber, because nothing was applied in the first place.

Chinese truck tyre tariffs annulled
Anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tariffs imposed against Chinese-produced truck tyres in 2018 must be annulled, according to a judgement published by the European Court of Justice on 4 May 2022. Tyres & Accessories understands that the verdict can be appealed between now and July, but unless that appeal is successful, the annulment of anti-dumping tariffs against Chinese-produced truck tyres will result in increased imports and sales of those products.
