Mixed feelings about Russia? – Titan International sends letter to Biden
In its most recent quarterly report, US-based off-highway tyre manufacturer Titan International, Inc. reports owning 64.3% of Russian tyre maker Voltyre-Prom, with the Russian Direct Investment Fund the remaining shareholder. Yet this connection with Russia hasn’t stopped Titan raising its voice against indirect imports of Russian petroleum products into the USA. Together with the United Steelworkers union, Titan has even sent a letter to Joe Biden.

The European importer of Indian manufactured xlite and xbrite aluminium forged commercial vehicle wheels, The Truck Hub Group has been placed into creditors’ voluntary liquidation following unsuccessful attempts to sell the business at the end of 2022. The company traded as The Wheel Hub, based in Sharston in south Manchester, having changed its name from MWheels in early 2021. This was one of a number of transformational changes for the company in recent years, with the establishment of a European operation, Wheel Hub GmbH in the Cologne region of Germany, which is “unaffected” by the liquidation proceedings. Over in Turkey, the rate of inflation hit 72% in 2022 and made its presence known in Brisa’s financial results for the year. But against this backdrop of growing Turkish Lira weakness, the tyre maker had a good year.

Also as of the 2020 fiscal year, Continental confirmed that it is procuring all of the electricity for its production sites around the world from renewable energy sources. Now, the German-based tyremaker is emphasising its goal of making tyres 100 per cent manufactured from sustainable materials by 2050.

Pyrum Innovations will soon begin work on a new facility not far from its main plant in Germany. It reports that the town council in Homburg has unanimously approved the sale of a section of land to Pyrum for the purpose of setting up a new pyrolysis plant. The company hopes the planning and approval process can now “begin as soon as possible.”

Amongst recently-announced changes to the Tire Industry Project (TIP) was the addition of Continental as a fourth co-chair. The company describes involvement in this capacity as “further emphasising its comprehensive commitment to sustainability.” Continental says it will contribute resources to TIP as well as its “long-term expertise in the areas of end-of-life tyres, sustainability assessment methods, and sustainable materials.”

Sentury’s revenue and net profit in 2022 increased year-on-year. The tyre manufacturer’s annual report shows that last year’s revenue was 6.29 billion yuan (about £760 million; €860 million), an increase of 21.53 per cent. Net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 800 million yuan (approximately £97 million; €1.1 billion), an increase of 6.3 per cent.

The tyre maker plans to debut a total of eight Enliten products for the European aftermarket in 2023, a figure representing around five per cent of all Bridgestone passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyres in the European replacement market.
