The UK’s last remaining wheel manufacturer, Rimstock Limited, has entered administration. Chris Pole and Ryan Grant from Interpath Advisory were appointed Joint Administrators of Rimstock Limited on 5 July 2023. There have been no redundancies amongst the company’s 74 staff while options are explored.

Kumho Tire has become the Official Tire Partner of AC Milan in a new long-term partnership in which the South Korean manufacturer becomes one of the club’s Rossoneri Premium Partners. Kumho is replacing its compatriot Nexen, which previously had a tyre partnership with the august club. All three of South Korea’s global tyre manufacturers, the largest being Hankook, have utilised the marketing opportunities offered by elite-level football to bolster their brand recognition and premiumisation strategies in Europe and beyond. Demonstrating its potential influence, the Milanese club claims “500 million fans worldwide.”

Pirelli signed an agreement to acquire 100 per cent of Hevea-Tec, the largest independent processor of natural rubber in Brazil, for “around 21 million euros”. Following regulatory approval, the deal is expected to close by the end of 2023. Pirelli reports that the acquisition will not impact the 2023 net financial position target of around 2.35 billion euro.

Within the 49 pages of the Fact Book 2022 the company reports its performance in the 2022 financial year – a 58% year-on-year drop in profit despite higher sales revenue – as well as information about its operations around the world, including in the UK.

Repairify has been awarded ISO 14001 for its Luton and Peterlee offices. It is the first company within the Repairify Inc group to achieve the accreditation for its environmental management system. Repairify met the required certification by ensuring its UK sites are compliant with specific environmental criteria and demonstrated strict monitoring processes and awareness of environmental policies. These include effective waste management, battery containment, spillage kits, energy usage, and fire regulations.

Opposition is building against planned job cuts at the Goodyear plant in Fulda, Germany. The tyre maker announced at the start of June that it would cut about half of the current 1,150 jobs at the Fulda site, and the local Goodyear works council has now invited the workforce in Fulda and other Goodyear sites in Germany to demonstrate against the job cuts in front of the factory gate next Monday afternoon. A non-public works meeting is also scheduled to take place within the plant that day, as employee union IGBCE writes in a recent press release in which it threatens Goodyear with a “fight”.

US-based waste-to-energy firm Global Clean Energy, Inc. (GCEI) reports that its Pyrolysis division has selected three European and ten domestic locations where pyrolysis facilities for processing end-of-life tyres into oil, recovered carbon black and steel can be built on a profitable basis. News of these proposed facilities follows the company’s decision not to initiate operations at another pyrolysis plant.
