Nokian Tyres has unveiled a new all-season tyre for European markets and launch images of the Seasonproof 1 don’t only provide a view of what the tyre looks like – the DOT code on the sidewall tells us where Nokian Tyres Seasonproof 1 is made, and who the manufacturer is. What we can see from the 205/55 R16 and 235/60 R18 tyres in publicity photos is that both were produced by Sailun Group in Qingdao, China.

Easyrain is partnering with Marelli to industrialize Easyrain technologies. That means AIS (Aquaplaning Intelligent Solution), which restores vehicle traction on wet roads, including aquaplaning conditions, and DAI (Digital Aquaplaning Information), a platform of virtual sensors for detecting road conditions and calibrating ADAS. Specifically, that means launching AIS and DAI on the market, scheduled for late 2025 and mid-2027 respectively.

Ceat Limited has reported consolidated revenue of Rs 30.53 billion (£301.1 million, US$366.8 million) for the three months ending on 30 September 2023, the second quarter of its 2023-24 financial year. This result reflects a 5.5% year-on-year rise in revenue. The Q2 FY23-24 EBITDA margin was 15.1%, up 202 bps on the prior quarter and 808 bps year-on-year. Net profit amounted to Rs 2.08 billion (£20.5 million, $25.0 million), an amount 44.2% higher than the prior quarter and an eye-watering 3125.5% increase year-on-year.

Gregorio Borgo has stepped down as chief executive officer (CEO) of Yokohama Europe GmbH. Effective 15 October 2023, Giovanni Angelo Ponzoni has been appointed as the new CEO. However, Borgo, who was both president and CEO of Yokohama Europe GmbH until the announcement, will “remain within the Yokohama family as consultant and acting president as of 1 January 2024”. Yokohama also announced the departure of Aleksandar Gramatikov, executive vice-president sales, marketing and supply chain of Yokohama Europe GmbH.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated Goodyear’s near-term and net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets. SBTi evaluated the tyre maker’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 near-term target ambition and determined this to be “in line with a trajectory of limiting warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.” The SBTi team also evaluated the Scope 1, 2 and 3 long-term target ambition and considers this aligned with its 1.5°C mitigation pathways for reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Bridgestone will make all of its future tyres suitable for electric vehicles (EVs), setting out its strategy to supply car tyre markets during the transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) to electrified powertrains. Tyre-makers have approached EV tyres in a variety of ways, unveiling specialist product lines, adding EV-approved variations to existing product lines, or introducing new technologies to ensure entire portfolios are applicable to EV performance demands. Bridgestone’s Enliten tyre technology platform addresses these demands, which include improvements in energy efficiency, maximising battery range, and accommodating the increased weight and torque of EVs. A Bridgestone-commissioned survey showed increased consumer support for EVs on the back of both potential savings in fuel or energy prices and reducing the environment impact of their motoring.

German end-of-life tyre (ELT) recycling specialist Pyrum Innovations AG plans to build a Pyrum pyrolysis plant in the Czech Republic together with a local energy company. This facility, located near the border with Germany, will have the capacity to process 20,000 tonnes of ELTs a year and is scheduled to start operations in 2025.
