Hella buys out TMD Friction’s Hella Pagid joint-venture shares
TMD Friction and Hella have agreed to transfer the 50 per cent share currently held by TMD Friction in the brake joint venture Hella Pagid to Hella. Hella will thus become the sole shareholder of Hella Pagid. Founded in 2013, Hella Pagid, a joint venture between automotive supplier Hella and brake friction manufacturer TMD Friction, sells brake components and accessories on the global automotive aftermarket. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

Kumho Tire and synthetic rubber manufacturer Synthos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the joint development of sustainable tyre raw materials. Under the MOU, the two companies will conduct a joint research and development project for Neodymium-Butadiene rubber using Bio-Butadiene and expand the use of environmentally friendly synthetic rubber in tyre manufacturing.

Arsenal F.C. has entered into a global partnership with tyre company ZC Rubber, manufacturer of the Westlake, Goodride, Chaoyang, Arisun, Trazano and Yartu tyre brands. As part of the agreement, ZC Rubber will have a marketing presence at all Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, and Carabao Cup games played at the club’s home, Emirates Stadium, starting on 2 December 2023 and continuing for the next three years.

Continental relaunched the Bandvulc retreading plant it acquired in 2016 as the ContiLifeCycle plant in March. Based on what Conti EMEA’s head of commercial consumer solutions Ralf Benack described as the existing “deep knowledge” of Bandvulc, the facility in Ivybridge, Devon has become a technical innovation hub for the company’s tyre retreading programme in the region. When Tyres & Accessories visited the plant later in the year, the manufacturer revealed the results of strong annual investments and its innovative implementation of automated processes for increased efficiency, and the key role that reatreading plays in Conti’s overall sustainability strategy.

Hankook Tire & Technology Co. is opening a local corporation in order to sell tyres in Taiwan. According to the The Korea Economic Daily, Xu Shengqi, a Taiwanese executive with over 20 years of Hankook experience, at the helm. The newspaper also reported that Hankook “is also considering launching a local corporation in Romania to enhance its European presence”.

Germany’s position as a centre of manufacturing took another blow today with the confirmation that Michelin will gradually cease production at its Karlsruhe and Trier sites, as well as the manufacture of new tyres and semi-finished products in Homburg. Michelin will also transfer its Customer Contact Center from Karlsruhe to Poland. These changes are expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and will impact a total of 1,532 employees.
