JK Tyre opens European Technology Centre in Milan
On 13 June, JK Tyre & Industry announced the opening of its European Technology Centre in Milan, Italy. The team in Milan will work closely with the team at JK Tyre’s Global Technology Centre in India and the company’s satellite R&D Centre in Mexico, according to company representatives. JK Tyre reports that it exports tyres to more than 100 countries so the task of the technology centre will be to “support product development for worldwide sites in OEM and replacement markets”.

Kenda has introduced new brand imagery reflecting its “Designed for Your Journey” slogan. The multi-segment tyre manufacturer’s new logo incorporates three design elements in its signature “K”: a check mark on top to represent quality assurance and safety; an inverted V shape on the bottom symbolising a strong foundation; and a diagonal line in the middle that represents the road ahead. Kenda says it wants to refresh the brand to communicate four core values: honesty, quality, service, and innovation.

Doublestar and Kumho’s horizontal competition resolution postponed
Recently, the tyre manufacturer Qingdao Doublestar received the “Commitment on Delaying the Resolution of Horizontal Competition” from the controlling shareholder Doublestar Group. Doublestar Group stated that “it is not yet ripe for solving horizontal competition through asset injection, which is not conducive to the rights and interests of Qingdao Doublestar, and there is great uncertainty”. It is reported that Doublestar Group has decided to extend the fulfilment period of the original commitment for three years to July 5, 2026. Tyrepress China learned that the Doublestar Group also mentioned that it is “looking for other solutions that are more conducive to solving horizontal competition and can promote the development of Qingdao Doublestar”.

550 jobs go in Fulda as Goodyear cuts tyre production there by 50%
Goodyear is cutting up to 50 per cent of the jobs at its tyre factory in Fulda, Germany, which will result in “a similar sized” cut in tyre production, the tyre manufacturer announced today. Since around 1100 people are employed at the Fulda tyre factory, that means around 550 jobs will be cut. The news comes as a result of Goodyear’s review of its manufacturing footprint.

The company was founded in the 1960s by the Eckerström family, which previously led the company. Peter Eckerström, who stepped down as CEO in early 2022, and the family will remain as minority shareholders after the company’s leadership opted to bring in the new majority owner to lead the company into a new development phase.
