Bridgestone joins Continental & Cordiant within Russia’s S8 Capital
After receiving all regulatory approvals, the sale of Bridgestone’s Russian assets to S8 Capital has been completed. Bridgestone Europe NV/SA has transferred its tyre manufacturing facility in Ulyanovsk and sales and marketing office in Moscow to the investment company. Thus ends a relationship with Russia that began in 1998.

Yokohama Tyre Sales Vietnam Co., Ltd. will begin operations as an independent entity on 1 January 2024 with its headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City. YTVI will become a dedicated tyre production company.

Sailun Group is partnering to build a new factory in Mexico. Through its wholly owned subsidiary Sailun International Holding (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., the Chinese firm signed a joint venture agreement with TD International Holding and Sapide CV (TD Mexico) on 15 December. The partners will build a facility capable of producing 6 million semi-steel radial tyres annually and are also considering the future establishment of capacity to produce 1.65 million all-steel radials a year.

Cheshire-based logistics provider Brit European has extended its long-standing relationship with Prometeon Tyre Group with the renewal of its 12-month rolling Pay-as-You-Go contract, which includes Prometeon’s ‘PRO Management’ central billing and tyre management tool. This agreement covers Brit European’s entire fleet of 162 tractor units and rigids, 201 trailers, and a mix of cars and vans. Prometeon supplies Brit European with its latest Pirelli Serie02 tyre products.

Pirelli has added a new driving simulator at its Virtual Development Centre (VDC) in Breuberg, Hesse. The latest generation of driving simulators have become an important tool for tyre manufacturers, reducing the number of physical prototype cycles required for the development of new products. Pirelli says the VDC and static driving simulator underline its innovation leadership, combining high-tech simulation, artificial intelligence, and expert engineering. Pirelli identified the VDC, which enables the premium tyre manufacturer to develop and test its products virtually, as a signifier of its commitment to investing in local production in Germany, contextualised by other premium manufacturer’s recent announcements of the planned closure of tyre production facilities in the country. Pirelli’s Breuberg plant employs around 2,500 people, including 250 development engineers.

Infineon Technologies and POLYN Technology have unveiled a new collaboration to produce the next generation of tyre monitoring products. As a result of the collaboration, Infineon will provide new generation TPMS sensors with tyre vibration signal detection, leveraging POLYN’s NFE for vibration data pre-processing at the sensor. The collaboration specifically targets the aftermarket and fleet segments, new data-as-a-service business models, and anticipates autonomous cars.
