Shoes and tyres: Michelin partners with Alizé Cornet
Feet and wheels share the common function of helping us move about, and it shouldn’t then be surprising that tyre makers are interested in both. Continental has supplied Adidas with its rubber compounds for a number of years now, and Hankook recently shared news of its partnership with Vibram. Michelin also offers shoes as part of its Michelin Lifestyle range, and now it is taking the business a step further. The tyre maker is extending its 12 year old sports equiment partnership with Babolat and will team up with French tennis player Alizé Cornet for what it says is “a first in the tennis industry.”

Continental hands CEVA responsibility for UK tyre logistics
CEVA Logistics has been awarded the contract to provide tyre warehousing and transportation services to Continental in the UK. The new five-year contract is worth more than US$50 million and involves CEVA’s management of the 21,000 square metre Continental warehouse within the Central Park industrial estate in Rugby. The supply chain management company will receive, store and dispatch around three million tyres a year and also manage Continental’s UK transport requirements using both its own dedicated fleet and a network of regional partners.

The company says the recent acquisition of Silicon Valley start-up Seeo Inc. for an undisclosed sum will help make this possible, as thanks to the acquisition Bosch now possesses the first sample cells needed to further its development work.

The latest Dow Jones Sustainability World Index ranking (DJSI survey by RobecoSAM), gives Michelin a score of 87/100, up four points, which takes it to first place in the original equipment sector. Lanxess and Saudi Aramco create synthetic rubber joint venture
Specialty chemicals company Lanxess and Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, today signed an agreement to establish a synthetic rubber joint venture. Lanxess and Aramco Overseas Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, will each hold a 50 per cent stake in the €2.75 billion venture, with Saudi Aramco paying approximately €1.2 billion in cash for its 50 per cent share after deducting debt and other financial liabilities.
