Truck/bus radial production reaches 10M mark at JK Tyre
Radialisation of the truck tyre segment in India has been a major subject over the past decade, and JK Tyre and Industries Limited considers itself the “undisputed leader” in this field. The tyre maker produced its first truck and bus radial in 1999 and currently holds the capacity to produce 3.5 million units per annum. On 22 August, the 10 millionth radial truck tyre produced rolled off the line at the company’s Vikrant plant in Mysuru (Mysore).

Volvo Trucks vehicle “The Iron Knight” has broken two world speed records for trucks on Goodyear tyres. The company’s rubber helped the 4.5 tonne, 2,400 horsepower truck achieve an average speed of 169.09 km/h (105 mph) in a time of 21.29 seconds, over 1,000 meters from a standing start. The Iron Knight also beat the record for the 500 metre distance, at 131.29 km/h (81.6 mph) in 13.71 seconds from a standing start. During the record runs The Iron Knight reached a top speed of 276 km/h (171.5 mph).

Goodyear Dunlop Tires Operations S.A. is investing more than two million euros in the replacement of the oil storage facility, or oil farm, and on other upgrades at its Colmar-Berg tyre factory in Luxembourg. Following two incidents leading to spills of low quantities of non-hazardous oil into the River Attert in April 2016, the company accelerated its investment programme and has carried out preventive measures.

Turkish joint venture tyre maker Brisa Bridgestone Sabancı Lastik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. – or Brisa, as it is more commonly known – intends to primarily utilise a US$150 million long-term loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and $160 million from a syndicated loan transaction arranged and coordinated by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) for the greenfield factory it is now building in Anatolia. A portion of the financing will also be directed towards the expansion of Brisa’s truck and bus tyre plant in Izmit.

India’s JK Tyre reportedly intends to bring its research and development teams together into a new RS 1 billion (£11.4 million) centre at its Mysuru (Mysore) site. According to IANS, company chairman Dr Raghupathi Singhania disclosed yesterday that facilities “currently spread over different locations” will be “brought under one roof” in a “world-class” centre.

Ground was broken and the first stone set in place for the new Michelin plant in Mexico at a ceremony held yesterday and attended by government dignitaries, key customers and company management. Construction of the plant in León – Michelin’s 69th factory globally and 21st in North America – is expected to begin immediately, with completion currently scheduled for late 2018.

The fund is known as the Roy V. Armes scholarship and is designed to assist the children of Cooper employees in the USA who intend to read either business or engineering at an accredited four-year college or university. The first Armes scholarship will be awarded in 2017.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) approved Triangle Tires’ most recent initial public offering (IPO) bid. Qingdao, Shandong Province-based tyre manufacturer Triangle was one of 13 firms to receive a CSRC go-ahead on Friday 19 August. The IPO is set to take place in Shanghai. An official IPO announcement is expected in September.
