Garage equipment supplier and exclusive UK distributor of Hunter products, Pro-Align has marked its 25th anniversary at its Towcester headquarters. The company unveiled a new slate sign outside its offices, while each member of staff was presented with a 25th anniversary decanter and 1991 bottle of vintage port, marking their contribution to the firm’s growth and success. Pro-Align’s aftersales team also recommissioned one of the first wheel alignment systems the company sold back in 1991.

Apollo Tyres opens second Global R&D Centre
Last week, Apollo Tyres formally inaugurated a second Global R&D Centre to complement its existing global research and development facility in the Netherlands, which opened in 2013. The new centre is located just outside the city of Chennai, in Southern India, and was inaugurated by company chairman Onkar S Kanwar and vice-chairman and managing director Neeraj Kanwar in the presence of members of the company’s Supervisory Board and Management Board on 9 November.

Kumho Tire has reported an operating profit of KRW 9.5 billion (£6.5 million) for the third quarter of 2016; this result contrasts strongly with the KRW 6.0 billion loss recorded in the same three months of last year. Sales in the July to September period amounted to KRW 710.1 billion (£482.9 million), one per cent less than during the same period of 2015. The South Korean tyre maker’s third quarter net loss declined year-on-year from KRW 55.4 billion to KRW 32.0 billion (£21.8 million).

Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. has reported a decline in its sales and earnings for the first three quarters of 2016. Profit attributable to owners of the parent declined 53.5 per cent year-on-year to 8.5 billion yen (£63.0 million). This results from a 38.0 per cent decline in operating income, to 18.9 billion yen (£140.1 million), on a 7.5 per cent decline in net sales, to 410.2 billion yen (£3.0 billion). Weaker demand and declining prices in Yokohama’s principal product sectors, together with the yen’s appreciation, were the main factors behind the lower sales and earnings.

Details of the transaction can be found in Continental’s Q3 2016 financial report, however, and there the company writes that the provisional purchase price for Hoosier Racing Tire was approximately €126 million. This sum was paid in cash, it adds.

While its latest US acquisition gives an indication of Conti’s future fleet strategy, the manufacturer has also been boosted by recent European endorsements. Scottish quarrying and supply company, Tillicoultry Quarries, implemented a Continental construction tyres only policy following several months of practical on-the-job testing. Speaking from its company’s Kincardine site in Fife, Craig Wilson, site & transport manager, said: “For a long time we had run a combination of remoulds and ‘budget’ tyres. We were experiencing significant downtime however, as well as the added costs of driver waiting, mechanic call outs and delayed deliveries, so we implemented a thorough review of our tyre policy. At about that time, our latest batch of Scanias came in with Continental construction tyres fitted, which allowed us to monitor those particularly closely.”
