Vredestein is a tyre brand with a pedigree stretching back to 1909, and with a range including products designed with vintage cars in mind, such as the Sprint Classic, Snow Classic, Grip Classic and Transport Classic, it sees itself having much in common with the Mille Miglia classic car rally. This affinity is now an official connection, as the two parties have entered into a sponsorship agreement covering the period from 2017 to 2019.

Hankook Tire reports achieving consolidated sales of KRW 1.61 trillion (£1.1 billion) and an operating profit of KRW 239.8 billion (£167.2 million) in the fourth quarter of 2016. For the full year, total sales revenues amounted to KRW 6.62 trillion (£4.6 billion), and increase of 3.1 per cent, and operating profit rose 24.7 per cent to KRW 1.10 trillion (£766.8 million).

All major tyre manufacturers have already announced price increases, and although STARCO states it has fought hard to mitigate these increases, it now finds itself in a position where it must pass some of this additional cost on to its customers. This price increase will affect all STARCO market segments.

Launching the final show in the series from Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, Clarkson introduced the Guinness World Record-holding Z Tyre to the studio audience. The show concluded with co-host Richard Hammond drifting alongside the lead driver of Acorn Zenises Motorsport, Steve ‘Baggsy’ Biagioni.

Last year, Goodyear’s ServiceLine24h roadside assistance service responded to almost 58,000 incidents in 31 countries. The tyre maker notes that the number of vehicles it managed was significantly higher than the previous year, however it was able to maintain an average turnaround time of 123 minutes. The majority of incidents were handled by the more than 2,000 TruckForce service providers across Europe.

The new pricing will be implemented by the end of April.

‘Only efficiency will save tyre distributors’ – Top 5 European tyre wholesaler Fintyre
In response to a contracting market in 2013 and 2014, Italian wholesale giant Fintyre underwent a reorganisation, involving relocation north from Empoli to Seriate, Bergamo and a staff reduction of 60 employees. The overhaul of the company structure did not end there; it started a process in 2015, completed in late 2016, which has changed the face of Fintyre. This, it states, has consolidated its position as the leader of the Italian market with a share of around 25 per cent. In 2015, British investment firm BlueGem Capital Partners, which at that point held a 90 per cent share in Fintyre after its original 2009 investment, was recapitalised following a major financing agreement with GSO Capital Partners. The company then made two major acquisitions – Pneusmarket and Franco Gomme – which have helped to increase turnover from 255 million in 2014 to an estimate of more than 400 million euros in 2016.
