Giti Tire’s GSW226, the brand’s first specific winter marked tyre, has won plaudits following a nine-day trip to Switzerland and Austria, fitted by one of the North East’s leading coach hire companies. Stockton-on-Tees-based Compass Royston, which undertakes transport for schools and travel operators, and counts Middlesbrough and Hartlepool United Football Clubs among its many sport clients, decided to trial the tyre based on brand feedback from its sister companies, Esk Valley Coaches and Proctors Coaches.

Forbes names Michelin ‘America’s Best Employer’ in Automotive Industry for 2017

On this year’s list, the company is ranked first in the Automotive Industry and 34th overall out of 500 large employers. Michelin states that this recognition highlights its commitment to “building a culture that enables every employee to leverage their unique talents to serve its diverse customers across the United States, and around the globe.”

For the three months to 31 March 2017, Bridgestone Corporation reports net sales of 851.9 billion yen (£5.8 billion), 3.2 per cent more than in the first quarter of 2016. Operating income decreased 5.0 per cent year-on-year to 103.1 billion yen (£698.8 million) with an operating margin of 12.1 per cent, and ordinary income was down 6.4 per cent to 96.9 billion yen (£656.8 million), decreases Bridgestone says occurred in part due to increases in raw material costs. Profit attributable to owners of parent amounted to 59.2 billion yen (£401.2 million) during the first quarter of 2017, a year-on-year increase of 4.4 per cent.

The NMDA Spring 2017 Dealer Attitude Survey, published on 9 May 2017, shows that the all-dealer average when asked about the overall value of the franchise remained static at 6.8 since the last survey in Autumn 2016. “The NMDA is pleased to see that this year’s Spring 2017 Dealer Attitude Survey received a response rate of 32 per cent. Participants in this survey were made up of 74 per cent of independently owned franchise dealers, and 24 per cent privately owned groups. 58 per cent were single brand dealer’s whist the remainder of 42 per cent were multi-franchised.” commented Stephen Latham, head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA).

The firm operates a daily service between Benelux, the UK and Germany, primarily the just-in-time delivery of parts for ships, and as befits such an organisation it is at the forefront of the use of logistics technology; Goodyear, which has supplied the company for more than 15 years, including its FleetOnlineSolutions (FOS) tyre management system since 2006, states efficient tyre management is an essential part of Estron’s real-time planning process, supported by a track and trace system, ensuring minimum downtime for vehicles and reduced administration.

In an interview published by the Trelleborg Group today, company president and chief executive officer Peter Nilsson has shared that, according to Trelleborg’s own assessment, its acquisition of Mitas parent company the CGS Holding will result in synergies of around SEK 400 million (£34.8 million) up to 2020. “These are mainly cost synergies, but also a great deal of sales synergies,” he added. “The estimate could be conservative and is based on how the market looks today. If there is a rise in demand, then sales synergies, above all, will increase.”

eBay begins rollout of tyre fitting service
Beginning this month, eBay will begin adding tyre fitting to the portfolio of automotive services it offers in certain markets. The online giant says eBay Motors will initially offer tyre fitting to motorists in Germany before rolling out the service in the US market this summer. eBay has yet to provide a timetable for the service’s introduction into the UK or other markets.

Tyre maker and automotive systems supplier Continental AG has reported sales of €11.0 billion in the first quarter of 2017, a 11.7 per cent increase year-on-year. Organic sales growth came to 9.5 per cent. At the same time, net income attributable to the shareholders of the parent rose by 2.1 per cent to €749.6 million, or €3.75 per share. This overall positive bottom line result was achieved in spite of increased raw material prices; Continental also expects to see rising raw material prices in the second quarter of the year.
