The Hellas Rally has developed into a major event for off-road fans over the past few years. This year more than 300 participants are expected, who will spend a week traversing Greece on their motorbikes and quad bikes. German oil and additive specialist Liqui Moly is the sponsor of the rally.

Triangle Tire USA is opening its first US warehouse in Madison, Tennessee to supply off-the-road (OTR), medium and heavy truck as well as passenger and light truck tyres to its distributors and dealers. The 53,000 square-foot facility allows for future expansion, according to Triangle.

Chelsea’s 1-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion completed the club’s Premier League championship with two games to spare in shirt sponsor Yokohama’s second season with the club. The Japanese tyre manufacturer has enjoyed the benefits of its association with the winners of what it calls the biggest and most prestigious prizes in world club football, with a “big increase” in “brand recognition,” according to David Seward, managing director, Yokohama HPT Ltd. Yokohama’s sponsorship also helped generate some publicity for road safety charity TyreSafe this year, as Chelsea became a member, and displayed the organisation’s messages at Stamford Bridge.

An explosion this morning at a factory owned by Continental shareholder Schaeffler is said to have injured 13 people. According to a report from the Police in Lower Franconia, Germany, an explosion occurred within a production hall at Schaeffler’s roller bearing factory in the town of Eltmann. It is currently thought that the explosion and a small fire that followed are linked to a problem with a cleaning system for industrial salt.

Therefore, it is fitting that these components on the Emirates Team New Zealand entry in the 2017 America’s Cup 2017 feature Pirelli branding. The ‘long P’ logo on its familiar yellow background is present thanks to a new partnership agreement signed between Pirelli and the two-time America’s Cup winner. The Pirelli logo will also appear on the boat’s hull.

Tucked away within an investor presentation given at the JP Morgan Investor Forum in Amsterdam last Friday, Michelin gave further information regarding its scheduled price increases for the European market. In addition to the previously announced five to eight per cent increases for truck tyres that took effect this month, prices for passenger car and light truck tyres will increase by two to three per cent from June and prices for tyres in the agricultural segment will go up by 12 per cent in July.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe has appointed Michiel Kramer as its marketing director for central and eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. In this newly created role, Kramer, a 12-year tyre industry veteran formerly with Apollo Vredestein, will be responsible for marketing, pricing, business intelligence and product management. He reports to Luis Ceneviz, Cooper’s managing director of Latin America Tire Operations and managing director of Europe Tire Operations.

Thanks largely to gains in its tyre business outside Japan and the first-time inclusion of Alliance Tire Group B.V. (ATG) in its consolidated results, Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. performed well in the first quarter of 2017. Net sales increased 14.2 per cent year-on-year to 147.7 billion yen (£1.0 billion), operating income was, at 9.1 billion yen (£61.8 million), 32.0 per cent higher than during the same period a year ago, and profit attributable to owners of parent was up 56.4 per cent to 5.7 billion yen (£38.7 million).

Alloy wheel manufacturer Uniwheels AG reports that it sold 2.436 million original equipment and aftermarket rims in the first three months of this year. This volume is 16.7 per cent higher than that achieved in the first quarter of 2016 and led to Q1 2017 revenues of €131.6 million, a year-on-year increase of 20.6 per cent. Revenue growth outstripped that of unit sales due to the presence of more higher value added items in the product mix as well as quarterly aluminium price adjustments.
