Michelin launches new coral-like concept tyre
As part of its Movin’On 2017 conference, Michelin has presented Vision, a new concept tyre, which is fusion of a number of cutting-edge technologies. The tyre is airless, connected, rechargeable, customizable and organic. It is also both a wheel and a tyre at the same time. The Vision concept was produced through “design thinking and in co-construction with users”.

An inauguration ceremony was held yesterday for Michelin’s new R&D centre in India. Alexandre Ziegler, France’s Ambassador to India, formally inaugurated the Michelin India Research and Development Laboratory in Manesar, Haryana state. The 3,800-square metre centre provides support to the Michelin Technology Center in Gurugram (formerly Gurgaon), a facility that focuses on commercial vehicle tyre R&D and provides technical support to the company’s manufacturing facilities in India, China and Thailand.

During the first quarter of the year, PT Multistrada Arah Sarana sold 72 per cent more Corsa motorcycle tyres than in the corresponding quarter of 2016. The Indonesian tyre maker reports selling 1.4 million Corsa motorcycle tyres during the three-month period. This substantial first quarter growth follows a 33 per cent increase in 2016. Last year, the Indonesian tyre maker sold 4.4 million Corsa motorcycle tyres, up from 3.3 million a year earlier.

Pirelli developing tyres for Infiniti’s Project Black S
The Infiniti car brand is working on ‘Project Black S,’ a partnership with Renault Sport Formula One to develop a road-ready F1 inspired car. Pirelli announces that it is also contributing to the project, specifically it is designing and making exclusive bespoke tyres for Project Black S. The new partnership was announced at the Canadian Grand Prix by Tommaso Volpe, director of Infiniti Global Motorsport, and Paul Hembery, Pirelli’s motorsport director.

ATS hardware will be found under the arches of the cars of all three OEMs competing in the series; Mercedes, Audi and BMW. ATS will supply 12x18in (front) and 13x18in (back) aluminium forged wheels, produced using a special alloy selected for its extreme strength and lightweight.

Giti Tire participated in the 45th ADAC Zurich 24h Race at the Nürburgring partnership with Team Dörr, one of Germany’s most experienced motorsport companies, finishing second in the SP8 class and 40th overall. Its fastest lap time was 09:11.087 minutes. The team’s Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo gained pole position in its class after qualifying but had its winning chances snatched away with a broken drive shaft with two hours remaining. The relationship with Team Dörr dates back to January 2017.

British supplier Wolfrace Wheels has been designing, manufacturing and selling advanced alloy wheels since 1971, seeing a great deal of evolution in the country’s aftermarket. From slot mag-shod Bedford CFs in the mid-1970s via Voodoo equipped Escort RS Turbos in the late 1990s to the present day, Wolfrace has remained a supporter of British design and engineering. While many aftermarket wheels now enter the market from plants in the Far East, and indeed Wolfrace itself has manufactured there in the past, the company has taken the decision to bring its entire manufacturing programme back to Europe. Tyres & Accessories spoke to Barney Britton, managing director of Wolfrace Wheels, about what inspired the company to take this decision.
