Days after announcing its sponsorship of Chennai-based club Chennaiyin FC, Apollo Tyres has shared details of a new agreement with Minerva Punjab FC (MPFC). Under a five-year contract, the tyre maker will act as title sponsor to the Mohali-based club. MPFC plays in the Hero I-League, which along with the Indian Super League is one of two premier football leagues in the country.

Michelin has announced the sale of its 40 per cent equity in Double Coin (Anhui) Warrior Tire Co. Ltd. Specifically, as the tyre maker reported today, Huayi Group (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. will purchase 30 per cent of the equity in the business held by Compagnie Financière Michelin SCmA, and Double Coin Tire Group Co., Ltd. will purchase the remaining ten per cent of the equity, currently held by Michelin (China) Investment Co. Ltd.

When Tyrepress.com visited BKT’s new factory in Bhuj, India late in 2015, work had begun on a new research and development centre. The off-road tyre maker reports that this facility is now complete, and it recently inaugurated the ‘Suresh Poddar Innovation Hub’. The centre is named after the oldest of the three Poddar brothers. It is located within a 25-acre area called the Mahabirprasad Poddar Knowledge Center, named after BKT founder, the late Mahabirprasad Poddar.

In the third quarter of this year, Nexen Tire increased its turnover by 12.1 per cent to KRW 526.9 billion (£360.9 million). This growth resulted from varied performance in the company’s regional markets. While sales were slightly down in North America and in Nexen’s home market of South Korea, the country’s third largest tyre maker turnover in Europe was up by 34 per cent, to KRW 143.9 billion (£98.5 million). Sales within the original equipment sector were also higher, and accounted for approximately half the overall increase in turnover.

Under a cooperative deal signed with Hyundai Motor, Michelin will work together to develop a new all-season tyre for electric vehicles, and will also collaborate in the development of a bespoke tyre for a successor model to the Genesis G80 saloon. Representatives from Hyundai Motor recently visited Michelin’s research and development centre in Clermont-Ferrand, France, to sign a technical partnership agreement.
