Goodyear partners with key Chinese e-commerce player JD.com
Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s presence in China’s replacement tyre market has gained a significant boost by the forging of a strategic partnership with e-commerce giant JD.com. Signed 1 December, the agreement with China’s largest e-commerce platform (by revenue) will place selected Goodyear products on a Goodyear-branded JD.com channel and also see the company’s tyre and automotive services centres, which currently operate in ten cities in China, collaborate with the JD.com automotive platform. Goodyear states that this partnership will result in “seamless omni-channel experiences.”

On 1 January 2018, a new organisational structure will take effect at Nokian Tyres. While the company’s business unit structure – Passenger Car Tyres, Nokian Heavy Tyres and Vianor – will remain unchanged and its external reporting model will continue to include business units and geographical areas, from the start of next year the Passenger Car Tyres business unit will be divided into three new business areas. A new unit, named Products and Technologies, is also being established.

Falken, Liverpool FC discuss tyre-football partnership and synergies
Falkens status as the official tyre partner of Liverpool Football Club is one of the latest in an extended series of tyre and football partnerships. Tyres & Accessories took the opportunity of Falken’s first event at Anfield to ask director and senior executive officer, Sumitomo Rubber Industries Yutaka Kuroda and chief commercial officer and managing director at Liverpool FC Billy Hogan to illustrate how the partnership will be used to benefit both parties. In addition to the particular synergies between the club and tyre brand, their answers also illustrate why there has been such a boom in partnerships between top-tier football clubs and tyres in recent years.

While Park Sam-koo won’t bid to acquire the Kumho Tire shareholding currently held by its creditors, he already holds one particular asset, and he’s not willing to simply let go of it. Through subsidiary Kumho Industrial, the Kumho Asiana Group chairman controls rights to the Kumho brand name. Park is prepared to allow whoever acquires the 42.01 per cent share in Kumho Tire to use the Kumho name – provided they pay for the privilege. This is a point that will likely complicate any potential sale.

Falken Tyres and Liverpool Football Club marked their global partnership with a shirt presentation ahead of the club’s game with Chelsea on Saturday 25 November at Anfield. Falken opted to sponsor the game, and accordingly its branding was displayed prominently in the players coach entrance, in the Liverpool dugout and on the LED sideboards. 50,477 fans saw an entertaining game end in a 1-1 draw.

It does 0-60 mph in 20 seconds with a full load, a task that takes a diesel truck about a minute. Without a trailer, the Tesla Semi achieves 0-60 mph in five seconds, compared to 15 seconds in a comparable diesel truck.
