The start of a partnership between Linglong Tire and Juventus FC in February has been cemented by an official ceremony at the football club’s home stadium in Turin. The ceremony took place on 22 April and was attended by Wang Feng, chairman of Linglong Tire, and Giorgio Ricci, Juventus’ co-chief revenue officer and head of global partnership and corporate revenues. Antonio Cabrini, former Juventus player and captain, was also in attendance.

A consolidated report on used tyres arising in Europe in 2016 shows 94 per cent were collected and treated. In compiling the data, the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA), consolidated used tyre (UT) management data for 2016 covering 32 countries, including the EU28, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, and Turkey.

The Government has committed to ending the sale of new conventional petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2040 and is under pressure from some quarters to bring this deadline forward. Technology company and tyre maker Continental, on the other hand, recommends a more protracted timetable for phasing out conventional power sources – and it has called upon governments to provide sufficient breathing space for the development of appropriate technologies.

Falken will contest its 20th season at the 2018 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race and subsequent VLN Endurance Championship. The Falken Motorsports driver line-up, which has been altered for 2018, are competing in its two GT3 cars, the Porsche 911 GT3 and BMW M6 GT3. Falken has also produced a video to mark the occasion of two decades on the Nordschleife “Green Hell”.

Tyre recycling company and manager sentenced for illegal Ayrshire tyre site
An Ayrshire tyre recycling company was fined £27,000 on 18 April 2018 at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for waste offences at a site in Irvine. A manager was also ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work under a Community Payback Order and to pay a Confiscation Order of £44,711. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is reminding all companies of the importance of working within the regulations following this sentence.

Production at the Michelin tyre plant in Ballymena, Northern Ireland came to an end last week. Although the facility won’t officially close until 30 June, The Belfast Telegraph writes that production ended last Wednesday, with the final tyre finished the following day.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber reports that its sales in the first quarter of 2018 were, at US$3.8 billion, four per cent higher than those a year earlier, even though tyre unit volumes were down 2.5 per cent year-on-year to 39 million. Segment operating income was down in the first quarter, however, declining 28 per cent from $390 million a year ago to $281 million. Goodyear says this decrease was driven by the impact of higher raw material costs.
