Shandong Linglong Tire Co., Ltd. won China Industrial Award, the first tyre enterprise in China to win this award. Wang Feng, chairman and president of Linglong Tire, accepted the award at the Great Hall of the People.

Goodyear launching Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5
Following the success of the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 range, Goodyear has announced that its latest Ultra High Performance (UHP) road tyre, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, will hit the market during the course of 2019. According to Goodyear, the new tyre will be available in 61 stock keeping units (SKUs) arriving between February and December 2019 with fitments from Volkswagen Golf to Porsche 911.

Marangoni and Vipal announce partnership
Marangoni Spa and Borrachas Vipal SA have announced that the two retreading material suppliers have entered into a partnership agreement aimed at “increasing the synergies and productivity, strengthening the industrial and commercial organisation of both groups”. Details of precisely what this means are still scarce but, according to a statement issued by Marangoni, this will lead to the creation of “the largest global independent player in the tyre retreading sector”.

Chinese tyre manufacturers aim to increase OE supply
When you look at Tire+’s deliberate proximity to a premium car show such as Auto Guangzhou, the first thing that comes to mind is original equipment (OE). If we take a comparable European equivalent event such as the Geneva Motor Show as an example, most of the leading global tyre players as well as some of the larger up-and-coming brands use Geneva as a way of showcasing new technologies and products in order to generate additional OE tyre sales as well as the benefit of the enhanced ongoing tyre replacement sales that come with the so-called OE pull-through effect. While it is not as linear and transactional an equation as investment in a motor show equals OE contracts, it clearly is an important part of the corporate courtship ritual. Surprisingly, things are a little different in China.

Doublestar Tyres, the new majority shareholder of Kumho, recently announced that its tyres are on-sale alongside premium brands at Carrefour supermarkets in Spain. According to Doublestar, which compared Carrefour founded in 1959 to Walmart in the USA, the supermarket chain is Europes favourite. Having pioneered the so-called hypermarket approach in Europe Carrefour has developed into the largest retailer in Europe and the second largest international retail chain group in the world, with business scope covering more than 40 countries and regions. Carrefour owns 17 large chain stores in Spain, which covers the Iberian area and radiates to the whole pan-European region. With an annual population of 400 million, Carrefour is a perfect channel for product sales and a perfect platform for brand exposure.
