Michelin renews long-standing CEVA Logistics contract
CEVA Logistics will continue to handle warehousing services and inventory management for Michelin at its Valladolid facility in north western Spain for another three years. Using around 55,000sqm within its facility, CEVA Logistics handles warehousing services, inventory management, and picking and loading of transport bound for Michelin customers, automotive manufacturers and spare parts and maintenance companies. CEVA also handles a range of tires for luxury touring vehicles, agricultural vehicles and trucks. Together these comprise some five million items per year.

According to the two companies “Symbio, A Faurecia Michelin Hydrogen Company” combines all their hydrogen fuel cell dedicated activities, with the aim of becoming a world leader in hydrogen mobility.

92% of European end of life tyres collected and treated in 2017
92 per cent of end of life tyres (ELTs) were collected and treated for material recycling and energy recovery in 2017, according to data covering 32 European countries, consolidated by the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA). This figure shows continuity with previous years’ data, which fluctuates between 93 and 95 per cent. The remaining 8 per cent could not be tracked, ETRMA states. The figure includes data from the 28 countries in the European Union, plus Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, and Turkey.

Commenting on its agreement in principle to buy a majority stake in European Agriculture Tyre Distributor (EATD), Mahansaria Tyres Private Limited (MTPL) states that it intends to build a global, market leading off-highway tyre business. MTPL describes the acquisition as its first step towards building its distribution network in Europe and developing EATD into “a leading European distributor. EATD has also announced that it will distribute MTPL tyres in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland, along with continuing to act as a distributor for Tianli tyres.

Temperature-sensitive goods transport fleet Ludwig Meyer GmbH & Co has signed a Goodyear Total Mobility fleet management contract. The partnership comprises the tyre manufacturer’s latest generation of fuel-efficient tyres, launched earlier in 2019, predictive digital solutions and the support of the pan-European service network TruckForce. “Punctuality and uptime are key in our operations. Particularly in the case of temperature-controlled transportation, any downtime of a vehicle may entail significant follow-up costs.” says Christopher Steyer, head of fleet and project management at Meyer Logistik.

Pirelli has presented what it calls the “World-first 5G enhanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) services.” The tyre manufacturer claims to be the first tyre company in the world to transmit information detected by intelligent tyres regarding the road surface via the 5G network. The demonstration took place during The 5G Path of Vehicle-to-Everything Communication event organized by 5GAA – Automotive Association, of which Pirelli is a member, in Turin, Italy.

The future of Continental is taking shape – 15 months after holding a groundbreaking ceremony for its new headquarters site in Hannover, Germany, last week the tyre maker and automotive systems provider held a topping out ceremony for the facility. During the ceremony, Continental chief executive officer Dr Elmar Degenhart reported that the progress remains “right on schedule” and the buildings will be ready to be occupied in time for the company’s 150th anniversary in 2021.
