The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has introduced a tyre intelligence solution for cargo van fleets. Called Goodyear SightLine, the solution will initially be available in Europe and North America, and later this year Goodyear will also offer it to original equipment customers and emerging fleet and mobility providers.

Bridgestone Corporation has announced that it will sell Bridgestone (Huizhou) Synthetic Rubber Co., Ltd., its China-based subsidiary for manufacturing synthetic car tyre rubber, to Taiwan’s LCY Chemical Corp. The company has not disclosed financial aspects of the transaction.

Roughly two years after he was appointed Ceat Ltd VP of marketing, Amit Tolani has been named chief executive of Ceat Specialty, effective 1 June 2021. Ceat Specialty has its EU office in Amsterdam and has been serving European farm and OTR tyre customers since 2017. Tolani joined Ceat in 2004 and has served in various roles across sales, marketing and supply chain functions. Prior to his latest appointment, he was the chief marketing officer of CEAT.

Pirelli to begin employee vaccinations on 16 June
Pirelli will begin its vaccination plan for company employees and their families on 16 June 2021. According to the company, the campaign is directed at all employees at the company’s three Italian sites – Milan, Bollate and Settimo Torinese – where a total of around 3,000 people are employed. Pirelli had already indicated its willingness to provide vaccinations at the company and the campaign will allow employees to be vaccinated on a voluntary basis.

Exploding costs – Yokohama OHT announces price increases
Yokohama Off-Highway Tires has announced further price increases for its brands in Europe. These will take effect next month and see prices for Alliance and Galaxy tyres rise by around five per cent. The manufacturer says this increase comes at a time when the costs of raw materials and freight rates “continue to rise at a dramatic pace on the global commodity markets.”

EV recharging facilities for Pirelli’s Driver network
Pirelli is working with energy sector company Enel X to set up electric vehicle recharging infrastructure in selected Pirelli ‘Driver’ tyre centre outlets. The two companies signed an agreement to this effect at this year’s socially distanced version of the Milano – Monza Motor Show, which began yesterday in the centre of Milan. They will begin by setting up charging facilities at Driver centres in Italy before rolling out charging infrastructures at sites in Spain and then other countries where Pirelli is active with Driver Tyres and Service.

Stellantis, the company created through the merger of Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in January, has honoured Nexen Tire at its inaugural Supplier Awards. It awarded the tyre maker for Competitiveness, one of eight categories in this year’s event; Nexen was one of two firms recognised for “outstanding performance in terms of cost savings (commercial, process, technical solutions and logistics) and their proposals for a cost reduction portfolio in line with Stellantis objectives.”

Nokian Tyres has equipped its logistics centre in Nokia, Finland with solar power capabilities. The plant consists of 3,160 solar panels with a combined output of more than 1,100 kilowatts (kW). All electricity generated by the solar panels is used by the logistics centre, including to provide lighting and ventilation.

Linglong moves to 7+5 tyre factory investment model
The board of Shandong Linglong Tire Company Ltd has revised its 10-year “medium and long-term development plan (2020-2030) to focus on a 7+5 rather than a 6+6 tyre manufacturing capacity expansion model. Up till April 2020, Linglong has worked according to a 5+3 plan, but last year this was upgraded to 6+6, meaning the company plans to run six tyre factories in China as well as six situated in international locations. However, according a stock market filing dated 10 June 2021, Linglong’s board voted unanimously in favour of running a total of seven plants in China and five internationally.
