Goodyear appoints Blum manufacturing director of Luxembourg tyre plant
Josy Blum, former manufacturing director at Goodyear’s Hanau tyre plant in Germany, is returning to his homeland to take on the role of manufacturing director at the company’s tyre factory in Luxembourg. He succeeds John Ries, who held the position between June 2016 and September 2017, and has now moved to Germany to take over Blum’s old position in Hanau.

Kirkby Tyres’ 2017 expansion programme will see its first warehouse completed in December 2017, with the 80,000sqft of new floor space, across nine additional new warehouses, fully operational by March 2018. In total, Kirkby will fit in 2,500 additional tyre racking units, enabling 8.9m high tyre storage facilities. The wholesaler will also add 10 more loading bays to its operation. In order to realise this expansion, Kirkby purchased three acres of land adjacent to its Speke headquarters, allowing it to increase its stock capacity and further improve its logistical operations, and increasing its total footprint to approximately nine acres. Kirkby added that the expansion would require more local personnel to be employed, and enable the company to offer customers a wider range of brands, sizes and applications.

He joined the company last month from the Sogefi Group, where he served as human resources director since June 2015. Bergese started his career in 1990 as a human resources specialist at Fiat Group company Gilardadini SpA.

Kim Jong-ho will likely return as president and chief executive officer of Kumho Tire. The 70-year old, who held these positions from 2009 until his retirement in 2012, has been recalled by the tyre maker’s creditors to head the loss-making company. During his previous tenure, Kim led Kumho Tire through the early years of its debt workout programme. The creditors will seek approval for Kim’s appointment at a Kumho Tire extraordinary shareholders’ meeting on 1 December.

The current chief operating officer of Bridgestone Retail Operations will take up his new position on 1 November. Cooper Tire is to mark its third year as a member of the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) and Manufacturing Institute’s (MI) Dream It. Do It. programme, connecting with more than 10,000 students for Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) events throughout October. Cooper will focus on the communities where the company has major facilities—Findlay, Ohio, Texarkana, Arkansas, and Tupelo, Mississippi. The company will also host its own Cooper Manufacturing Experience events, planned by the company’s Dream Team, a group of 40 employees from across Cooper who work with students year-round to educate and improve the image of careers in manufacturing. With such initiatives Cooper states that it hopes to help strengthen the future workforce pipeline.

Harvey Brodsky, the former managing director of TRIB and founder of RTA, died on 17 September following complication from lung cancer. Brodsky had been diagnosed in March and given two to three weeks to live, but fought the illness for another six months.
