Trelleborg appoints Fredrik Nilsson as chief financial officer
The Trelleborg Group has appointed Fredrik Nilsson as its new chief financial officer. Nilsson will assume this position during the first quarter of 2021, succeeding Ulf Berghult. Berghult will complete the 2020 year-end report before leaving Trelleborg for a new opportunity.

Pirelli executive vice chairman and CEO, Marco Tronchetti Provera has proposed Angelos Papadimitriou for the new office of general manager co-CEO. Papadimitriou will report directly to Marco Tronchetti Provera. The appointment has been added to the agenda for the scheduled 23 July 2020 board of directors meeting. According to an official statement outlining the appointment, “the aim of the reorganization is to support the realization of the business model and broaden the management team in view of the succession path which will be completed in the first half of 2023”. In other words, Papadimitriou is being positioned as Tronchetti Provera’s successor.

Heading up Wastefront’s board, Hanssen brings international experience from top-level positions within oil, gas and energy companies such as Hydro, Equinor, Aker and Engie. She has served as a board member of multiple Scandinavian industry leading companies - including Det norske oljeselskap ASA, Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA, and Yara International - over the past twenty years, with current, active board member positions at Alfa Laval, Scatec Solar and Oslo Bygg. She was previously deputy CEO and COO at Europe’s leading oil and gas company, Wintershall DEA. Wastefront has also announced its first £25 million tyre recycling facility will be built in the UK.

Continental has merged its passenger and truck tyres replacement businesses in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Philipp von Hirschheydt, former head of the passenger tyres replacement business in the EMEA region, leads the new business unit. This transformation started on 1 January, 2020, becoming effective on 1 July, 2020. Conti states that it has merged the businesses to “increase customer centricity while increasing the overall efficiency of the organisations.” In making this organisational change, Conti has shifted its structure to align with customer groups rather than product categories.

Continental has announced the reorganisation of various global specialist tyre activities into a single ‘Specialty Tyres’ business unit. Formed on 1 July, the company has combined its ‘Commercial Specialty Tires’, ‘Two Wheel Tires’ and ‘Hoosier Racing Tire’ business areas under the new umbrella unit. The result of the reorganisation means the entire Continental speciality tyre business will be developed, manufactured and distributed worldwide under the new unit. It brings together tyres for material handling, the agricultural, port, and construction sectors, bicycle and motorcycle tyres, and tyres for racing. The move continues the evolution of various specialist tyre segments within the company, begun at the start of 2013, when Conti renamed its industrial tyres business ‘Commercial Specialty Tires’.

The news follows Sensata’s decision to close its Carrickfergus, County Antrim operation in January 2020. And this was part of a downward trend that saw the company cut 125 jobs in Carrickfergus in 2018.
