Papadimitriou’s contract with Pirelli ends this week

As reported in January, Angelos Papadimitriou is stepping down as general manager and co-chief executive officer of Pirelli. The tyre maker shares that the termination of his contract employment takes effect on 28 February 2021. As already stated, Papadimitriou will maintain the offices of Director on the Board and member of the Strategies Committee. The termination of Papadimitriou contract of employment changes his status to that of non-executive director.

Goodyear names Chris Helsel SVP Global Operations & CTO

A broadened remit for Christopher P. Helsel: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has announced he will succeed Jonathan Bellissimo as senior vice president, global operations following the latter’s retirement after a Goodyear career spanning four decades. Helsel will also continue as chief technology officer, a role he’s held for the past three years.

Prinx Chengshan appoints marketing & communications manager for Europe

Prinx Chengshan relocated its European operations to Germany in 2019, and the Darmstadt-based Prinx Chengshan Tire Europe GmbH team has now been reinforced by the arrival of Sybille Schümann-Huth as senior marketing & communications manager. She reports directly to managing director Thomas Wohlgemuth.

Versarien appoints chief technology officer

Versarien plc, the AIM-listed the advanced materials engineering group, announced on 7 January that it has appointed Dr Stephen Hodge as the companys Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Dr Hodge joined the companys board with immediate effect.

Tyre industry veteran Rob Henderson retires

29th January 2021

50-year tyre industry stalwart Rob Henderson retired at the end of December 2020. Henderson can look back on an illustrious career in the international tyre market, much of which was spent in management roles with tyre manufacturers and wholesalers. He ends his career following seven years as the general manager in the UK and Europe for China’s Enjoy Tyre, best known for its Rotalla and Routeway brands.

Continental restructures management of Specialty Tires business

Musical chairs within the Continental Specialty Tires business unit, but nobody was left standing when the music stopped: Wolfgang Thomale, who heads up the entire business unit, has taken on responsibility for the associated Two-Wheel Tires segment. He picked up this additional remit on 1 January, taking over from Thomas Falke. Falke is now in charge of the Commercial Specialty Tires segment, which Thomale had led since last summer.

Joshua McMartin appointed purchasing manager at Bickers

Bickers has appointed Joshua McMartin as its new purchasing manager. The son of current managing director Derek McMartin, Joshua has become the third generation of the McMartin family to achieve a management position for the aftermarket parts and accessories supplier. Bickers is the sole UK distributor of Maxxis and CST motorcycle and ATV tyres.

Britishvolt appoints William Reynolds as CFO

Britishvolt appointed William Reynolds as chief financial officer effective 1 January 2021. Reynolds has over 20 years of experience with “large-scale world-wide capital fund raising, strategic planning, financial and operations management and business development in Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East”, according to the company.

Hyung Yun Kim new MD for Hankook Tire’s Hungary plant

Hankook Tire has appointed Hyung Yun Kim managing director of its factory in Hungary. Kim succeeds Seong Hak Hwang, who has managed the Rácalmás production site since 2017 and will now take up a new role within the company.

Continental appoints new UK and Eire OTR sales manager

Mike Leedham has been appointed as the new off-the-road (OTR) Sales Manager for Continental Tyre Group. Leedham will be responsible for developing Continental’s OTR business in the UK and Ireland, as the company continues the development of its earthmover tyres, launched to the market in 2016.

Papadimitriou stepping down as Pirelli GM, co-CEO

Pirelli and Angelos Papadimitriou, the tyre maker’s general manager and co-CEO, have agreed to end their working relationship. Pirelli hasn’t specified the date on which Papadimitriou will relinquish these roles, but when he does the duties he performed as general manager and co-CEO will be taken over by Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli’s executive vice chairman and chief executive officer, until a successor is appointed.

VRA elects new chair and deputy chair

Philip Nothard has been elected as the new chair of the Vehicle Remarketing Association, succeeding Sam Watkins, who has held the role for the last two years. With a 30 year career in the used car sector, he is currently insight and strategy director at Cox Automotive, and has also held key positions at Cap HPI as well as other senior roles across the automotive sector.

Bridgestone appoints Marko Ibrahim to head USA retail business

Marko Ibrahim is the new president of Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO), the Bridgestone Americas subsidiary responsible for operating a network of more than 2,200 tyre and vehicle service centres across the United States of America. He succeeds Joe Venezia, who led the organisation since 2017 and has stepped down to pursue a leadership role outside of Bridgestone.
