Toyo Tires appoints new GM for Africa & Middle East Sales Division
Shoji Hirao is the new division general manager at Toyo Tires for the company’s Europe, Africa & Middle East Sales Division. He began in this role on 1 June, joining the tyre maker from the Japan Automobile Tyre Manufacturers Association.

The NMDA will discuss standards for the motorcycle technician apprenticeship at a virtual meeting in August for dealer members. The association wants to ensure the programme remains relevant and up to date. “Following a turbulent 2020, the NMDA is keen to get apprenticeships back at the forefront of our agenda”, said Paddy O’Connell, head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA).

Norwegian waste tyre recycling company Wastefront has appointed Vianney Valès as its new CEO, replacing founder Inge Berge, who moves to chief operating officer. Valès is a former top oil and gas executive in in companies such as Shell and Galp Energia. He was first introduced to Wastefront by its liquid offtaker Vitol in 2019, was initially engaged with the Norwegian company in his former position as CEO of Devaltec LLC, a project developer and solutions provider in new and sustainable energies. Valès will be responsible for de-risking the company’s first waste tyre plant project in Sunderland, due to begin construction in early 2022. Valès will relocate immediately to London from Houston, Texas. Wastefront added that Valès’ initial priorities will include the selection of an EPC partner, developing commercial agreements, and ensuring all outstanding permits are approved.

During Mental Health Awareness Week which ran from 10 to 16 May 2021, Drive My Career announced a new “Supercharged” virtual event which will take place on 9 June 2021 to support apprentices’ mental health and wellbeing. The session follows the success of the first “Driving Inclusivity in Automotive” event held in December 2019 in partnership with dealer group Lookers. External speakers from Babcock International, Ben, the automotive charity, Lookers and the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) will be covering a number of issues related to apprentices’ wellbeing.

As PCL continues to expand despite the pandemic, the company has appointed Jodie Mitchell as assistant category manager. According to the manufacturer and distributor of inflation products, Mitchell brings a wealth of product management knowledge from working at Morphy Richards, where she spent five years as assistant category manager and product manager for various product ranges. Major achievements included growing the Filter Coffee category from 7th to 2nd place in the UK market.

As of 1 July 2021, Paolo Ferrari will become Bridgestone Corporation’s Global Chief Business Solutions Officer. At the same time, he officially relinquishes the position of Chief Operating Officer within Bridgestone Americas, Inc., the company’s US-based subsidiary. Bridgestone Corporation recently announced that Scott Damon would take over the latter role on 1 June.

Tomohiko Masuta has been named as managing director of both Falken Tyre Europe GmbH and Sumitomo Rubber Europe GmbH. Masuta joined Sumitomo Rubber Industries in 1985, first gaining experience in the Product Development department. In the 1990s, he moved to the Original Equipment (OE) area of the business before being dispatched to support the development of the Dunlop brand in European countries. In 2015, he was appointed general manager of OE Tyre Business for SRI, with his most recent role being general manager of the Automotive System Division. In his new appointment, Masuta will oversee the SRI group companies in the EMEA region and Falken businesses in Europe and will drive the growth of OE customers within the region.

Marty Krcelic, president and chief operating officer (COO) of TBC Brands and executive vice president of TBC Corporation is set to retire effective 30 June 2021. Under his leadership, TBC Brands has become one of the largest distributors of proprietary brand tyres in North America. Geoff Doster will succeed Krcelic to lead TBC Brands as senior vice president of sales. His responsibilities will be expanded to include oversight of TBC Brands operations, customer service, commercial truck tyre sales and equipment and non-tyre sales.

Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has appointed Mark Field as its new chief executive, succeeding Wendy Williamson who is retiring later this year. Field has worked with the IAAF through the Federation’s PR representative, Impression Communications, for the past nine years and will assume chief executive responsibilities from 1 July 2021. He also has experience working within automotive media, PR and automotive trading groups.
