Autogem’s Under Pressure ’23 praised for inflating TPMS standards

Protyre’s Liam Healy and Hometyre’s Craig Schwartz were crowned TPMS Experts in the large and small retailer categories respectively, while Lewis Marshall from Formula One Autocentres prevailed in the under-23s category of Autogem’s second competition to find the country’s leading tyre pressure monitoring system technicians and raise standards and awareness within the industry. More than 1,000 retail sites entered Under Pressure ’23, with 12 technicians beating hundreds to make the final, putting their problem-solving skills to the test at the Pirelli Performance Centre (PPC) in Burton-upon-Trent on Wednesday 28 June. The finalists were praised for detecting various TPMS faults in a quick and efficient manner and communicating them clearly thereafter. Following a successful first outing, Autogem expanded the competition with its third award, focused on young and emerging talent.

Giti Tire appoints senior manager automotive engineering Europe OE

Giti Tire has appointed Lars Ohnsorge as senior manager automotive engineering Europe OE. The company said the appointment of the experienced tyre professional would further strengthen its original equipment operations, following the recruitment of Nicolas Kluson as key account manager Europe OE in April, with both providing in-depth technical support and direction from the company’s European R&D Center in Hannover, Germany. Giti said its new OE team will immediately focus on the manufacturer’s existing OE relationships with BMW Group, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), VW Group (Audi, Seat, Skoda, VW) and VW Commercial Vehicles as well as introduce the Giti brand and business philosophy to other key vehicle manufacturers.

New marketing manager for First Line

Alex Jarvis-Cleaver has been appointed marketing manager for aftermarket specialist First Line Ltd. He has a wealth of experience in marketing, having led marketing operations at a manufacturer of torque tools for six years, prior to a brief career break that saw him take on a trip across the United States.

Anton Tereshin heading Pirelli in Russia

Following the return of Aimone di Savoia Aosta to Italy after almost three decades in Russia, Pirelli has named Anton Tereshin general director of its Pirelli Tyre Russia subsidiary. Tereshin joined Pirelli in 2015 and has held several positions with the tyre maker, most recently chief financial officer of the Russia & CIS business.

ATS Euromaster appoints Gary Butterworth as central operations manager

6th July 2023

ATS Euromaster has appointed Gary Butterworth as central operations manager, effective immediately. Butterworth, who will be field-based, steps up after eight years as area operations manage. In that role, he led up to 28 service centres across southern England.

New MD for Ring

5th July 2023

Andy Gratton has been promoted to managing director at Ring Automotive, the UK subsidiary of ams OSRAM. He takes over from Theresa Spencer who leaves the company at the end of August 2023, to pursue a new challenge outside the automotive aftermarket. Gratton is currently Ring’s financial director and formally assumed the MD role as of 1 July. Theresa Spencer will remain in the business until 31 August to support the hand-over process.

Eddie Fogarty Joins GB Tyres

Eddie Fogarty has joined GB Tyres as national key account manager. Fogarty joins the existing PCR team and will work with colleagues and the senior management team within the business to “further develop and grow its share of the passenger car market.” That means heading up the Kenda tyre dealer programme in addition to “supporting passenger car tyre sales growth through the development of key accounts”.

PCL names South of England manager

PCL has appointed Michelle Foord as its new Area Sales Manager for the South of England region. She began her new role with the pneumatic specialist at the start of this month, just in time for her to join the PCL team at Automechanika Birmingham 2023.

Francesco Tanzi returning to Pirelli as Corporate General Manager

At the first Board of Directors meeting held after the upcoming Pirelli shareholders’ meeting, CEO candidate Andrea Casaluci will propose a new Corporate General Management structure that will report to him. He will put forward this structure in coordination with current Executive Vice President and CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera and propose the position be entrusted to former CFO Francesco Tanzi, who will return to the Pirelli Group after a hiatus of almost two years.

Daksh Gupta appointed as an IMI vice president

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has confirmed the appointment of Daksh Gupta, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of Marshall Motor Holdings plc and Vice President of BEN, as a Vice President of the professional body. With three decades’ automotive experience, Daksh Gupta joins six other IMI Vice Presidents who all bring unprecedented hands-on experience, benefitting the IMI community, the wider sector and a new generation of people entering or considering entering the automotive workforce. Led by IMI President, Professor Jim Saker, the Vice Presidents’ vast knowledge and varying perspectives help the professional body adapt and respond to the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

Hamaton appoints Steve Hodges marketing manager

Steve Hodges is the new marketing manager at Hamaton Ltd. He joined the tyre pressure monitoring system and valve supplier in May 2023 and brings more than 20 years of marketing experience into his new role. Hodges has worked in a wide variety of industries from technology companies, fast moving consumer goods, financial services, and IT, most recently as the events and marketing manager for Leicester Arena, home of the Leicester Riders basketball team.

Stephen Redfern named PCL’s Head of Engineering & Product Development

PCL has appointed Stephen Redfern its Head of Engineering and Product Development, and the pneumatic expert states that after undergoing an in-depth induction at its Sheffield-based HQ, Redfern is “ready to inject a progressive new energy to the company.” Reporting to Operations Director Dean Battersby, Redfern is responsible for leading and managing PCL’s engineers in the delivery of strategic aims, products, and services.

Florent Menegaux heading UN Global Compact France Network

The Governing Council of the UN Global Compact France Network has appointed Michelin chief executive officer Florent Menegaux to be the network’s president for a three-year term of office. The appointment took effect yesterday and began with his participation in a round table on the theme of ‘Growth or Decline: how to achieve inclusivity’.

Tyrenet MD Mike Riley retires

After more than 57 years in the tyre business including two decades as Tyrenet managing director, Mike Riley has announced his retirement effective 30 June 2023. Announcing the news, Tyrenet representatives highlighted how Riley’s contributions have been “integral to the success of Tyrenet”, adding: “Mike will continue to play a strategic role in the company as chairman, moving from the daily operations to overseeing and influencing the future growth of Tyrenet.”
