CES UK supporting Liverpool classic car restoration training garage
The Parts Alliance member, CES UK is supporting a classic car restoration scheme designed to give young people the skills to gain employment in the motor industry. Basetech Automotive Training Services in Liverpool uses Ferraris, Alfa Romeos and Jaguars, plus hot rods and motorbikes, to help inspire and engage teenagers aged 14 to 18. CES UK uses its network of contacts among independent garages to find suitable placements for students from. In the past two years its support has helped 159 young people into work, the company says.

Hee-Se Ahn, who until recently served as vice-president of Marketing & Sales at Hankook Tire Europe, has been appointed president of Hankook Tire America Corp. and chief operating officer for the tyre maker’s business operations throughout the Americas. Mr Ahn’s new role began on 1 January, and he is now based at Hankook Tire’s America headquarters in New Jersey. His successor as vice-president of Marketing & Sales in Europe is Gang Seung (Tony) Lee, who was previously managing director of Hankook Tyre UK Ltd. Hankook will release details about Lee’s successor in the near future.

Kings Road Tyres (KRT) has appointed Fred Carroll as its new senior sales executive for Ireland, based at its Dublin sales and distribution centre. His recruitment represents a restructuring of the distributor’s sales operation in Ireland, reflecting a renewed focus on growing sales in the country. Carroll, 41, brings more than 18 years tyre industry experience to his new position, joining from a similar role with Mileage Tyres. Prior to that, he worked with Kirkby Tyres in Dublin and KwikFit in both Athlone and Dublin.

Transense Technologies PLC deputy chairman David Kleeman is to retire from the board of the company on 31 December 2014. Kleeman is the former non-executive chairman and stepped down from that role in October 2013 to become deputy chairman. He was replaced as chairman by David Ford. Transense shares fell 14 per cent in response to the news.

Nine tyre fitters from dealers across the UK and Ireland have become the first to graduate from Michelin’s Tyre Academy after a year of theoretical and practical learning. The fitters, who each work in a different Michelin Certified Centre (MCC), were chosen for the course as they have the potential to become an expert technician or take on management positions in the future.

Martha Desmond has been appointed Apollo Tyres’ new chief human resources officer. She replaces Tapan Mitra, who retires from the role at the end of the year, and is based in the company’s office in London, reporting to vice-chairman and managing director Neeraj Kanwar. As chief human resources officer, she takes on responsibility for all aspects of human resources within the organisation. Desmond has also been appointed a member of Apollo’s Management Board.

At its 2014 international conference and annual meeting in Manila in late November, the International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) elected Dr. James Jacob, director of research at the Rubber Research Institute of India (the research department operated by India’s Rubber Board), its chairman for a two-year period. Dr. Jacob has been IRRDB vice-chairman for the past five years, and previously served as liaison officer of the IRRDB’s Physiology Specialist Group.

At the end of October 2014, Robin Shaw took over as the managing director of Bridgestone’s North Europe region, which includes the UK as well as the Nordic markets. Shaw replaced John McNaught who had been with the company for 12 years. He joined at a time when reorganisation is taking place within the wider European business and when a number of key UK and North region managers have either retired or gone off to pastures new. Tyres & Accessories caught up with Robin Shaw as he was en route to Brussels for one of many meetings he has had with European executives during the beginning of his tenure.

Former UK and Ireland director of consumer tyres for Goodyear Dunlop, Jürgen Titz, has been appointed head of consumer replacement for the tyre maker’s Germany, Austria and Switzerland, or DACH, region cluster. In his new role, he will coordinate all consumer tyre-related sales and marketing activities in the three German-speaking countries. Titz will also join the management of Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany, which is led by George Rietbergen. Jürgen Titz succeeds his brother Frank Titz, who as general manager will lead Goodyear’s business in Russia.

Michel Massé joined Mitas as the tyre maker’s sales manager responsible for business development in Canada. In the role of key account manager for Canada, he is responsible for increasing sales of Mitas and Cultor products within the national market. He began his career in the tyre industry in 1994, later joining Continental Tire Canada as a key account manager. He left the company in 2012 to run his own tyre retail business.

It was decided at yesterday’s meeting of Continental AG’s Supervisory Board that, as of 1 May 2015, Hans-Jürgen Duensing will join the company’s Executive Board and simultaneously take charge of the ContiTech division. He will take over from Heinz-Gerhard Wente, who has requested the termination of his contract on 30 April, thus ending a career with Continental spanning more than forty years.
