The name “Rich” says it all. When people talk about Goodyear CEO Richard Kramer, they often shorten his name – and why not? After all, nobody is ashamed to be Rich in the land of unlimited possibilities, a country where a person (Donald Trump, to be precise) can publicly declare that “I am rich, really rich,” and still be nominated a presidential candidate. Massive wealth is viewed in the USA as a sign of intelligence, skill, seriousness, competence, common sense and all other positive qualities.
From Barbie to tyres – new marketing director at Goodyear Dunlop France
Goodyear Dunlop Tires France has announced the appointment of Camille Mounier as marketing director. She joined the company in March 2015 and is tasked with promoting the company’s flagship Goodyear and Dunlop brands, along with Fulda and Sava, in the French consumer and motorcycle tyre markets. She also oversees public relations communication for these brands and the company’s Vulco retail chain.
Paolo Astarita has been appointed the Trelleborg Group’s new senior vice-president of human resources. He begins in this position on 1 October, succeeding Sören Andersson, who will then serve as senior advisor, human resources until his retirement at the end of the year.
The chief executive of the independent tyre dealer group positioned to carry the Point S flag in the USA has stepped down. US trade publication Tire Review reports that John Kreidel left Tire Factory due to “strategy differences”. Chief financial officer Walter Lybeck will stand in as interim CEO until the now vacant position can be filled, and Kreidel has agreed to assist Lybeck as needed for the coming three months.
Delaney to lead Goodyear’s Asia Pacific business, Smytka moving to new leadership role
After four years at the helm of Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s Asia Pacific business unit, Daniel L. Smytka has been earmarked for another leadership role within the company. He will be succeeded as president of the Asia Pacific region business by Chris Delaney, who joins Goodyear today. Delaney will assume full responsibility for the business on 1 January 2016; Smytka will work closely with Delaney on the transition before moving to his new position, in which he will report directly to Goodyear chairman and chief executive officer Richard J. Kramer.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber reports that Peter R. Rapin will succeed Thomas Kaczynski as the company’s treasurer. Rapin joins the tyre maker from TRW Automotive (now part of ZF Friedrichshafen AG), where he most recently directed the company’s global treasury, tax, insurance, and pension functions as vice-president treasury and tax. In his new role he will report to Laura K. Thompson, Goodyear’s executive vice-president and chief financial officer.
Continental launching automotive software training scheme
Starting in September, Continental will introduce a new programme that will train “young people who are passionate about IT” to become automotive software developers. According to Ariane Reinhart, the tyre and automotive systems manufacturer’s Executive Board member in charge of human resources, the training programme will be based in Germany and involve close collaboration between Continental’s various divisions.
Former Peugeot and Hyundai dealer principal appointed EDT UK sales manager
Jon Tatnall, formerly dealer principal at Yeomans Peugeot and Hyundai in Hastings, has joined Kent-based engine detox specialist EDT Automotive as national sales manager. Tatnall started his career as a trainee sales executive at Sidlow Group, before taking increasingly senior roles at Lifestyle, Pinewood and Pendragon.
Brisa’s Bayman takes on CMA region position at Bridgestone
Hakan Bayman, CEO of Brisa Bridgestone Sabancı A.Ş since January 2009, has been appointed senior vice-president of Bridgestone’s CIS/Russia, Middle East and Africa (CMA) region. He begins in this position on 1 September, and while he steps down as CEO of the Bridgestone-Sabanci joint venture company he will remain on the Brisa board. Yiğit Gürçay replaces Bayman in the top Brisa job.
Indian tyre maker TVS Srichakra Ltd has announced the appointment of K P Rangaraj as the company’s chief financial officer, effective 12 August 2015. Mr. Rangaraj has also been designated chief investor relations officer, and in this capacity he will handle issues related to the fair disclosure of unpublished price sensitive information.
A successor is being sought for William E. Berry, the president and chief executive of US-based firm American Tire Distributors, Inc. (ATD). Berry has announced his intention to retire, however no specific retirement date has been set and Berry will remain in his current role until a successor is appointed; after this date he will serve the company as an advisor.
Sistino appointed general manager of Pirelli’s industrial unit
The Board of Directors at Pirelli & C. SpA has appointed Lorenzo Sistino the company’s ‘general manager industrial’. Sistino joined the Pirelli group on 6 July and replaces Dino Maggioni, who is taking on new responsibilities within Pirelli’s Latin America region business.
Michelin’s UK’s Guy Heywood, has been appointed as commercial director for the well-known tyremaker in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Heywood has been commercial director Truck – UK & ROI since since 2012.
Bridgestone Europe reports the departure of the managing director of its First Stop business in the German-speaking ‘DACH’ markets and Eastern Europe, Dr. Urban Uttenweiler. According to a statement released by Bridgestone, Uttenweiler has “decided to take on a new role outside the Bridgestone organisation.”
