Kihn to replace Wells as Goodyear’s EMEA president
Jean-Claude Kihn has been named president of Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s Europe, Middle East and Africa business. The president of the Latin America business will fully assume his new role on 1 January 2016, succeeding Darren R. Wells, who will leave Goodyear in early 2016.

Michelin Tyre has appointed Stewart Pooley, 58, as UK original equipment country manager for the company’s truck and bus division. The 26-year Michelin veteran assumes the role after two years as sales manager for Michelin solutions. The role will see Pooley working closely with domestic bus, coach, trailer and truck manufacturers, as well as advising manufacturers importing finished vehicles into the UK from production plants worldwide.

At the end of October Nokian Tyres changed its operational structure to “strengthen the companys product and innovation leadership, end-to-end supply operations and sales and distribution management”. The move also follows the departure of one of the firm’s senior executives. According to Nokian, the former head of Passenger car tyre operations, Rami Helminen, has decided to leave the company and “continue his career elsewhere”. Rami Helminen was appointed as Nokian vice president, Car and Van Tyres nine years ago, a role he took on on 1 March 2006.

Marangoni Industrial Tyres has appointed Patrick Avril as general manager of its French subsidiary, Marangoni Industries Manutention, based in Louvres, near Paris. The company said the appointment confirms the Marangoni Group’s interest in the French market and further strengthens its presence in an area where, thanks to the subsidiary, it has a leading position in the sale and service of tyres for industrial handling equipment. Marangoni claims a double-digit market share in the country.

Michelin Tyre Plc is consulting on the closure of its Ballymena truck tyre factory at the same time as investing in the expansion of its Dundee car tyre and Stoke-on-Trent retreading sites. The Ballymena factory closure plans suggest the site will be run-down between now and a mid-2018 closure point. The Ballymena factory currently employs 860 people and Michelin says it is “committed to supporting those employees during consultation and in the forthcoming months”.

Maxam has announced its strategic intent to grow global sales and market shares following completion of an intensive review of its operations. One result of this review has been the move of the operational support team from Luxembourg to Birmingham, where it will link up with the Sailun Jinyu European team, and stand in very close proximity to the nearby Sailun European Research and Development facility. Talking to Tyrepress about its latest expansion project, Maxxis chairman Tsai-Jen Lo has visited the chief minister of the Indian state of Gujarat in order to finalise plans for Maxxis’ first plant in India. The latest plant, joining ten other Maxxis plants located throughout Asia, is due to be ready for operation in early 2017.
