VW ‘streamlines’ internal structures
The Volkswagen Group is streamlining its internal structures. CEO Matthias Müller has almost halved the number of direct reports he receives and new appointments to several posts will take effect in the first quarter of 2016.

At its meeting last Thursday, Continental AG’s Supervisory Board extended the contract of Executive Board member Frank Jourdan until 24 September 2021. Jourdan has been an Executive Board member since September 2013, the month he was appointed president of the company’s Chassis & Safety division.

Peter Coleman and Stuart Attfield join the two respective teams and in doing so supplement a strengthened salesforce and pricing department. Both report to consumer marketing manager Wim Belckx and sales and marketing director Farrell Dolan.

As of 7 December, Jan Steinmetz has taken over as chief human resources officer at Bridgestone Americas. He succeeds Christine Karbowiak, who held the position since February in addition to her roles as the company’s chief administrative officer and chief risk officer. Steinmetz will lead the company’s international human resource programming for nearly 55,000 employees, and is located at Bridgestone’s Nashville-based Americas Support Center and headquarters.

Yujiro Kanahara has been named president of Nippon Goodyear Ltd, the supplier of Goodyear tyres to the Japanese market. He joins Goodyear following a 36 year career with Bridgestone Corporation, where he served in executive leadership roles in Japan and key markets around the world prior to his retirement from the company in 2014. Kanahara succeeds Dale Brackin, who served as interim president during the transition period since October when Goodyear acquired Sumitomo Rubber Industries’ 75 per cent interest in the Nippon Goodyear business.

Grouptyre, has appointed Paul Hollows as its new commercial director. Hollows, who has been with the company for almost 16 years, has been promoted to the role from sales director, which sees him assuming responsibility for implementing Grouptyre’s business development strategy. Hollows joined Grouptyre in its infancy in 2000, and was appointed sales director for the company in 2008.

Bridgestone has signed a new deal with the British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association (BSMA), making the tyre manufacturer the title sponsor of the Bridgestone BSMA National Series 2016. The new agreement means Bridgestone will complete a third successive year of involvement with the category, formerly known as a BSMA Clubman’s Series. The tyre giant adds that “massive improvements” are already planned for the youth series.

Pieter Dubois has been appointed as Heuver Tyrewholesale’s agriculture product manager. Previously employed as an account manager in Belgium and Luxembourg, Dubois said the move would allow him to return to his agricultural roots, envisaging some “fine-tuning” for the wholesaler’s existing segment team. Bertus Heuver, director Heuver Tyrewholesale, said Dubois would use “his enthusiasm and ambition to play a leading role” in the company’s agricultural operations. His appointment is also described as “the next step in [Heuver Tyrewholesale’s] planned growth scenario.
