Matthias Urban new head of sales at Apollo Vredestein
Matthias Urban has taken over the role of head of sales at Apollo Vredestein. He succeeds Jaap van Wessum, who will leave the company later this year after spending more than two decades there in various functions. The former Goodyear Dunlop business unit and marketing director began in his new position with Apollo Vredestein on 1 July.
Richard Lyons joins Trelleborg as North Region general manager, UK MD
Richard Lyons has become Trelleborg wheel system’s industrial and construction general manager for the North Europe region. The latest move follows Lyons’ appointment as managing director of Trelleborg Wheel Systems UK operations and its Interfit fitting and fleet service business, which took place back in April 2016.
DriveRightData has established a new sales office in South America as part of the firm’s global expansion plan. This year, the company embarked on a global expansion plan that has seen headquarters established in Los Angeles and South Korea. Last year the company established a base at Mira Technology Park in Nuneaton in Warwickshire, United Kingdom.
Andrew Page has introduced a range of annual training and assessment solutions for MOT testers and quality controllers in partnership with IMI.
Through its Auto Education programme, Andrew Page has introduced seven courses to meet new Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) requirements, with courses suitable for existing and new MOT testers. Andrew Page’s offering ranges from online courses, training plans and annual CPD for existing testers; to one, two and three day courses for new MOT testers and MOT managers.
Mark Thys, the managing director of Goodyear Dunlop Tires France since October 2014 and member of Alliapur’s board of directors, has been named as the recycling body’s new president. He officially started his two-year presidency of Aliapur at the body’s board meeting held on 11 May 2016 taking over from Serge Bonnel, the managing director of Continental France.
Starting 19 September, Paolo Ferrari will begin in the role of president and chief executive officer of Bridgestone Corporation’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) business unit, and additionally become a member of the Bridgestone Europe NV/SA Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Ferrari will be based in Zaventem, Belgium, and succeeds Franco Annunziato as chief executive officer of Bridgestone EMEA; Annunziato was appointed executive chairman and chief executive officer of Bridgestone China Asia Pacific in January 2016.
Vittorio Marangoni has taken over as president of Marangoni SpA. His appointment to the position was confirmed at a meeting of the retreading and tyre machinery specialist’s Board of Directors late last month. The Board also named Giuseppe Marangoni the company’s new vice-president, while company founder Mario Marangoni received the title of honorary president as a mark of respect for his more than 60 years of commitment in leading the Marangoni Group.
Edinburgh Napier University has made Blackcircles founder Mike Welch an honorary doctor of enterprise at a ceremony held in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on 7 July.
In addition to his tyre businesses, which come under the Zenises banner, Harjeev Kandhari has taken on an additional non-executive chairman role at Walpole Capital, a venture capital firm based in London.
Bridgestone Europe names new director of consumer replacement sales
Tom Adams is Bridgestone Europe’s new director of replacement sales for the Consumer business unit. The former West Europe Region Consumer business unit director began in the position on 1 July, and in this Brussels-based role Adams will report to Jake Rønsholt, managing director of the Consumer business unit.
ETRMA appoints director for EHS and Climate Action
Cornelia Tietz is the European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers’ Association’s new director for EHS and Climate Action. In this role, Tietz will primarily focus on tasks and topics related to energy, climate change, health and safety and the environment. She joins ETRMA after seven years at ReachCentrum and four at Cefic, where she was responsible both for coordination of different groups and in charge of carrying out analysis of regulatory developments in the chemical industry.
It is little over a year since Davanti’s launch at the Autopromotec show, and within this short space of time the brand has gained a foothold in the UK and Irish tyre markets. Now the team behind Davanti have their sights on Europe, and to help establish the brand there have appointed Michael Eckert Davanti’s European sales director.
New leadership for Conti’s HEV, Transmission business units
Two of Continental’s non-tyre businesses have new leaders. The Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) business unit, part of the Continental Powertrain division, is headed by Rudolph Stark, while the Stephan Rebhan takes over Stark’s former position as head of the Transmission business unit, which also belongs to the Powertrain division. Both changes are effective immediately.
Florin Popescu has been appointed director of sales for Goodyear Dunlop’s business in Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova. He brings over a decade of experience at Goodyear Dunlop Tires Romania into his new role; Popescu joined the company as an area sales manager in October 2003, and served as truck tyre manager and commercial tyre manager for the Romanian and Bulgarian markets before being appointed commercial tyre manager for Romania, Bulgaria and Moldavia in January 2014.
