Tyre Industry Award winners 2016
The Tyre Industry Awards have been presented for 2016 during the sold-out NTDA Annual Dinner, this year hosted by the Vox Conference Centre on the site of Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre. In addition to the various gongs, the NTDA presented Sir Tom Farmer with the National Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Tyre Industry, sponsored by Hankook UK, while Brian Funnell and Lennie Wells were also made NTDA Honorary Life Members. Presented by television personality Suzi Perry, the winners were decided by a panel of leading industry judges, and the results live-tweeted by Tyrepress via its Twitter feed.

Former Pirelli research and development director Daniele Lorenzetti has assumed the role of chief technology officer at Apollo Tyres, and has also joined the tyre maker’s Management Board. He succeeds Dr Seshu Bhagavathula, who recently returned to the automotive sector after a two-year stint at Apollo Tyres to take up the position of chief technology officer at Ashok Leyland. Lorenzetti is based in the company’s European headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Masataka Yamaishi has been appointed president of Yokohama Rubber Corporation’s Tire business. Yamaishi was promoted to this role effective 1 October and succeeds Hikomitsu Noji, who had held the position since its creation five years ago. Noji remains president of Yokohama Rubber and a member of the company’s board.

Dunlop Tyres has helped to design and deliver an in-depth training course in conjunction with National Tyres and Autocare Centres (NTA). Aimed at NTA’s assistant branch managers, the course is the first of its kind, focusing solely on developing assistant branch managers in NTA’s centres nationwide. There has not previously been a training course which offers such in-depth and wide-ranging training for the assistant branch managers.

Immediately following the announcement of his departure from Nokian, Ari Lehtoranta has been unveiled as the new president and CEO of Caverion Corporation, a supplier of energy-efficient technical solutions for buildings, industries and infrastructure on whose board he has sat since 2013 (as chairman since 2015). He will assume the new position on January 1, 2017.

Nokian Tyres’ president and CEO Ari Lehtoranta has resigned in order to “pursue new opportunities outside of Nokian Tyres”. According to the company, Lehtoranta will continue in his present position until the end of 2016. Lehtoranta only joined Nokian in May 2014 and will be remembered for his decision to own up to company’s magazine tyre test manipulation in February 2016.

Netherlands retreader Obo Tyres has appointed Peter Schrijver as its new commercial manager. The company said his appointment would further stimulate the growth of the company. Schrijver starts in his new position at Obo Tyres BV on 1 October, 2016, having worked previously for Apollo Vredestein for 29 years.

On 1 October, Luis Ceneviz will succeed Jeff Schumaker as managing director – Europe tyre operations at Cooper Tire & Rubber. Ceneviz will hold this position in addition to his current role as managing director – Latin America tyre operations and will increase his area of responsibility to cover Europe, the Middle East and Africa in addition to Latin America, including Mexico and Central and South America. Jeff Schumaker, who has been based in the UK since his appointment as managing director – Europe tyre operations in January 2013, will assume the position of vice-president, global manufacturing.

Following a restructuring of Hankook Tire’s truck tyre business in German-speaking markets, Manfred Zoni has taken over as sales director for the ‘DACH’ markets of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Zoni’s appointment took effect 16 September, and in his new role he reports directly to Dietmar Olbrich, the tyre maker’s vice-president for sales and marketing in the DACH region. He succeeds Friedel Loke, who recently retired after holding the position of northern region sales director at Hankook Reifen Deutschland GmbH for more than 18 years.

She was honoured in the category Woman, Research and Enterprise, granted by the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research.
