Ferrari takes on COO role at Bridgestone Europe

1st November 2016

Paolo Ferrari, who was recently named president and chief executive officer of Bridgestone Corporation’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) business unit and joined Bridgestone on 19 September 2016, will as of next year take on the additional position of chief operating officer of Bridgestone Europe NV/SA. This change takes effect 1 January 2017 and sees Ferrari succeed Yves Kerstens.

Continental appoints Lehmann corporate technology officer

The role of ‘corporate technology officer’ is a new one at Continental and reflects the company’s aim of enhancing its innovative capabilities. The first person to occupy this position is Kurt Lehmann. His focus, shares Continental, is to enhance the company’s innovative capabilities. The new corporate technology officer reports directly to Continental Executive Board chairman Dr Elmar Degenhart, and is tasked with formulating a new long-term technological strategy for the firm.

New spokesperson at Continental

Henry Schniewind has been appointed Continental’s spokesperson for business and finance, filling a position vacant since Vincent Charles became the company’s head of Corporate Media Relations in early September. Schniewind begins in his new role on 1 November.

RMI Bodyshops welcomes announcement on apprenticeship funding

On 25 October, the government set out how apprenticeships will be funded as part of the drive to help millions get the skills they need for a successful career. The new reforms will guarantee support from employers and government, and ultimately boost our economic productivity. “The announcement from the Department for Education on apprenticeship funding is positive news for the smaller bodyshops (less than 50 employees) in the sector”, comments Jason Moseley, Director of RMI Bodyshops (NAB & VBRA), the UK’s trade association for vehicle repairers.

Continental appoints John DeSalle president of Hoosier Racing Tire

John DeSalle has been named president of Hoosier Racing Tire Corporation following the company’s acquisition by Continental. In his new role he will report directly to Dr Jochen Etzel, chief executive officer of Continental Tire the Americas, LLC and Hoosier Racing Tire Corporation.

Marangoni Group names Maggioni its new CEO

Dino Maggioni has been named the new chief executive officer of the Marangoni Group. He succeeds Massimo De Alessandri in this role and was appointed by the company’s board after approval was granted at a shareholder meeting. During the meeting, the company’s statutory charter was also modified to increase the number of directors to eight board members.

Pirelli on track for a 2018 IPO

On 19 October the board of directors of Pirelli & C. S.p.A. met in Milan to discuss the integration of Pirelli Industrial and Aeolus, along with plans for a 2018 IPO, a year earlier than expected. As a result of the meeting the board, approved the firm’s 2016-2018 industrial plan, including its vision up to 2020 for Pirelli consumer.

Reorganisation at ATG – Noronha to lead APAC, MEA businesses

As part of the organisational changes at Alliance Tire Group (ATG) following its acquisition by the Yokohama Rubber Corporation, Angelo Noronha, who is currently chief of aftermarket sales for Europe, will become president of the ATG’s APAC and MEA regional businesses. He takes on responsibility for markets in Asia, Oceania, India, the Middle East and Africa as of 1 January 2017.

New consultant role for Brisa’s Şensoy; Ertan Kurt takes over as international markets director

Halit Şensoy, international markets director at Brisa Bridgestone Sabanci for the past six and a half years, has been appointed consultant to the chief executive officer, OEM business. This appointment took effect 3 October, and as of that day his former position was taken on by Ertan Kurt, who is now responsible for the Lassa tyre brand’s sales and marketing at an international level.

FMI offers motor industry bursary

The Fellowship of the Motor Industry (FMI) has launched a new bursary, designed to assist motor industry trainees, students and apprentices through their studies. The three year bursary will form part of a sponsorship package with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI). Funds to be provided by the FMI will contribute to the cost of training, books and other learning materials and expenses to help trainees manage the costs of their study.

Bridgestone names new president of US, Canada truck & bus tyre business

Joseph Saoud has been appointed the new president of truck and bus radial at Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO). In this role, he will be responsible for leading sales activities for Bridgestone’s US and Canadian commercial truck and bus tyre business, including Bandag retreads. He is tasked with driving the business’ long-term growth strategy and ensuring continued value for customers, dealers and fleets.

Autoglass appoints Asa Wirsenius as new people director

Asa Wirsenius has been appointed as the new people director at Autoglass. The role gives her overall accountability for the development and implementation of the company’s people strategy, Autoglass states. Wirsenius will lead employee engagement and the businesses’ approach to learning and development to boost overall performance of the company. As a member of the executive team she will also share responsibility for the planning and successful execution of overall business and operational strategy.

Giti appoints European sales and marketing directors

Giti Tire has appointed Brian McDermott and Daria Sala della Cuna as sales and marketing directors – Europe for passenger car and light truck tyres (PCR) and truck and bus tyres (TBR) respectively. Both directors will work closely with major clients and partners around Europe to increase sales and marketing activities, handle brand strategy, and channel development and product portfolio extensions for the Giti, GT Radial, Primewell and Runway brands, Giti states.
