Hankook appoints Zoni truck tyre sales director for DACH region
Following a restructuring of Hankook Tire’s truck tyre business in German-speaking markets, Manfred Zoni has taken over as sales director for the ‘DACH’ markets of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Zoni’s appointment took effect 16 September, and in his new role he reports directly to Dietmar Olbrich, the tyre maker’s vice-president for sales and marketing in the DACH region. He succeeds Friedel Loke, who recently retired after holding the position of northern region sales director at Hankook Reifen Deutschland GmbH for more than 18 years.

Solvay, Sylvaine Neveu, a researcher at the firm’s Research and Innovation entity within the group’s Global Business Unit Silica, has won the Irène Joliot-Curie 2016 award for work on energy saving tyre technology. She was honoured in the category Woman, Research and Enterprise, granted by the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research.

Giti Tire appoints Torsten Gehrmann as new senior managing director – Europe
Giti Tire has appointed Torsten Gehrmann (45) to the new position of senior managing director – Europe. Confirming the departure of former managing director – Europe Corrado Moglia, Gehrmann said, “we thank Corrado for the work he performed for the company.” Since September 2015 Moglia had split the European MD role with Stefan Fischer following the resignation of Richard Lyons. Fischer will continue in his existing position as managing director - Europe for Product Technology and R&D Centre Europe.

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. is to establish a tyre research & development centre in North Carolina, with R&D activities scheduled to start this September initially in the greater Charlotte area. The company presently conducts R&D on tyres for the North American market in several US states and in Japan, but aims to consolidate the majority of these R&D activities at the new centre. With the consolidation, Yokohama also plans to double the current size of its North American R&D staff.
