A fair few changes have taken place within the Marangoni Group’s management team this month. The company reports it has “seen a high turnover in management positions” since the beginning of February, changes that represent a “further step in the generational change that is taking place within the Group.

Andy Fern has joined Kwik-Fit as fleet sales director following an 18-year career with Michelin, most recently as national fleet sales manager. He replaces Peter Lambert who has retired after seven years as Kwik-Fit GB fleet director. Meanwhile, Simon Lucas has been promoted to the new role of customer support director of Kwik Fit GB. This role includes responsibility for Kwik-Fit Mobile, numbering some 200 vehicles, and the management of the company’s Customer Support Centre in Tannochside, Scotland, serving both fleet and retail customers. Both Fern and Lucas will report directly to Kwik-Fit GB managing director Kenji Murai.

Bridgestone has become the first tyre manufacturer to offer the Society of Operations Engineers’ (SOE) Commercial Tyre Technician Licence to employees of fleets across the UK. The company said the licence would raise standards and improve uniformity in the commercial tyre industry. Attaining the licence requires the completion of three practical assessments and an online test. It aims to regulate the industry and provide best practice with an approved standard that everyone can aspire to achieve. The licence is currently being rolled out, and Bridgestone UK development trainers Phil Thirsk and Paul Turner passed rigorous tests in October to become qualified assessors.

A new course from Bosch is designed to ensure that technicians can develop the skills and knowledge to perform the statutory vehicle inspections required for MOT testing. Designed for those who are not already qualified as MOT testers, the training comes as a result of a DVSA change devolving the responsibility for training to other providers. Bosch has a longstanding relationship with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), one of the awarding bodies for the training, and those who pass the final assessment will receive the IMI Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 4 and 7). Those wishing to book their MOT demonstration test with the DVSA must first hold the Level 2 Award.

The position of director for the passenger car tyre division within Bridgestone Europe’s Central Region (CER) left vacant by the departure of Peter Gulows in the middle of last year has now been filled. Torsten Claßen began in this role on 1 February and has taken on responsibility for all sales and marketing activities in Germany and Austria, and for the entire business in Switzerland. He reports to Andreas Niegsch, managing director Bridgestone CER.

A reshuffling of senior management at Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. and its Alliance Tire Group (ATG) subsidiary will occur at the end of March. Hikomitsu Noji, who has served as the company’s president since 1 October 2016, has been appointed chairman of ATG. He begins in this role on 30 March 2017, taking over from Toru Kobayashi, who has held the position of chairman of the Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. subsidiary since its acquisition on 1 July 2016. Upon handing his Alliance Tire Group responsibilities over to Noji, Kobayashi will become an advisor to Yokohama Rubber.
