Staffordshire University Formula Student team links up with Klarius for bespoke racing exhaust
Staffordshire University sought collaboration with leocal exhaust manufacturer, Klarius Products, to provide a bespoke system for its Formula Student team’s latest racing car. The custom system has supported the development direction of a new car, ensuring that the team will be ready to hit the track at Silverstone on 22nd July 2023, hoping to regain their 2021 champions title.

Mitas has extended its Mousse range with junior sizes to better support young racers on the path to higher racing classes. Mousse replaces the need for inner tubes in off-road two-wheeler racing. Gustavo Pinto Teixeira, vice president of Two Wheels and Specialty Tires at Yokohama TWS, explains: “There is a lot of excitement about adding two of the most popular junior sizes to our existing Mousse range. With this addition, we are creating a solid foundation for developing young talented racers.”

Exclusive Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli will offer softer compounds at the Hungaroring than in 2022’s Hungarian grand prix when the series visits the country on 21-23 July: the C3 will be P Zero White hard, C4 will be P Zero Yellow medium and C5 will be P Zero Red soft. The Alternative Tyre Allocation (ATA) will also make its debut in Hungary. The ATA is a new allocation for qualifying that was originally scheduled to be used at the cancelled Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix and will also be tested at the Italian Grand Prix in September.

Romain Febvre claimed his second consecutive victory in MXGP, winning the inaugural FIM Motocross World Championship round in Lombok, Indonesia. It was the second time in two weeks that the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team rider visited the top of the podium. Febvre used Geomax MX34 front and MX14 rear tyres to manoeuvre through the mix of sand and dirt terrain in the high heat and humidity.

Pirelli has signed up to supply tyres exclusively to the Moto2 and Moto3 classes in 2024-26, replacing long-term supplier Dunlop. Pirelli calls the series “the strongest feeder classes in global motorsport.” The new three-year agreement is being finalised, with Pirelli set to become an integral part of the lightweight and intermediate classes of Grand Prix racing, adding to its portfolio of apex motorsport series supply deals. It will also supply various feeder series, known collectively as The Road to MotoGP. In global two-wheel racing, Pirelli is long-term exclusive tyre supplier to all classes of the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship. Pirelli will supply its Diablo Superbike slick tyres to both classes, following its strategy of closely aligning its racing and consumer products.

The four-time BTCC champion produced a legendary performance to take his 65th career victory, after a technical infraction meant Turkington had to start the first of three races on Sunday at the very back of the grid.

Pirelli engineers predict its soft compound Scorpion KX WRC are the optimal choice for World Rally Championship contenders in Kenya, as the WRC Safari Rally commences on 22 June. Rain and muddy conditions, as well as loose stones and rapidly changing road conditions greet competitors, who have chosen to load up on the soft version of the Scorpion KXs. 28 sets per car – the 24 assigned by regulation plus the additional four for the shakedown – allow drivers to fit four new tyres at each of the seven services over the course of the race weekend.

Toyo Tires with Ring Racing had a successful outing in its recent visit to the Nordschleife, achieving a podium finish in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Series race. After qualifying fourth in their Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2023, Heiko Tönges took the start in car number 170, with Michael Tischner taking over for the middle stint and team principal Uwe Kleen bringing it home for the finish. The Toyota GR Supra was equipped with Nürburgring-soec Toyo Proxes Slicks.

Pirelli tyres will be fitted on a record 40 cars at the next round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS at Fuji in Japan this weekend. The event also represents the opening round of the Fanatec Japan Cup event. Pirelli is sole supplier to all the GT3-based championships organised by the SRO Group around the world. These events showcase racing equivalents of roadgoing supercars, making them particularly suited to Pirelli’s core business of supplying OE and replacement market tyres to performance vehicles for the road and track. The tyre manufacturer says it uses motorsport for the development of road tyre products in its P Zero and Cinturato ranges.

Yokohama is returning as the exclusive tyre provider for the Porsche Pikes Peak Trophy Division for the sixth consecutive year. Every Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport vehicles will compete on Advan A052 tyres. In extended hill climb competition, 27 drivers in multiple divisions will run on Yokohama Advan tyres during the legendary 12.42 mile “Race to the Clouds,” which takes place June 25 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The tyre manufacturer wants to repeat its overall successes from 2022 when its Advan branded tyres were used by the overall champion, picking up 10 podium finishes, four division wins and four of the top five overall finishers.

The third round of the country’s premier touring cars series was hosted by the Suzuka Circuit in Mie Prefecture on 3–4 June. Yokohama has positioned Advan as headline sponsor of the series, and targeted victories on its rubber to maximise the impact of this sponsorship. Yokohama’s corporate strategy in the passenger car tyre market is to increase sales of its high performance products for premium vehicles, chasing the generally higher margins offered at this end of the market.

With the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship’s 2023 season two meetings and eight races old, the purple-liveried SL Apollo Tyres Trucksport is competing at the top end of the driver’s championship. German 35-year-old driver Sascha Lenz says that the truck is ready to compete following mechanical challenges in pre-season practice, having stepped up the pace in the season to sit in fourth position in the driver standings. The championship has visited the Autodromo Misano World Circuit in Italy and the Slovakia Ring so far, with the new Polish round at Poznan coming up on 24-25 June. Lenz pronounced himself and the team “satisfied” with the team’s improvements in the new race truck: “My initial feeling after the testing was that we were far from where we wanted to be in terms of set-up. However, we have proved that we are going in the right direction.”
