Toyo Tire Corporation will end the manufacture of non-tyre automotive parts at its subsidiary in the USA. The cessation of production at Toyo Automotive Parts (USA), Inc. will take effect on 31 October 2023, and the company will be dissolved as a business entity. The closure of the Franklin, Kentucky-based business affects (as of June 2023) 207 employees.
Two new sizes have joined the Michelin Pilot tyre line. Designed to be the “best tyre money can buy for general aviation aircraft,” the Michelin Pilot high-performance cross-ply tyre is now available in four sizes for the general aviation market.

Bridgestone Corporation improved its sales and profit in the second quarter, contributing to H1 2023 revenue of 2.10 trillion yen (£11.52 billion), up 11.4% year-on-year. Upon entering into a global co-branding agreement earlier in the year, Giti Tire said it would add the slogan ‘Giti – Powered by Sparco’ to the sidewalls of UHP tyres from 2024. One product that may gain the slogan is the next-generation GitiSport GTR3. The tyre maker unveiled the road-legal semi-slick to international customers in June, and a spokesman told Tyrepress.com of plans to debut GitiSport GTR3 in Europe next year.
Tyres have been targeted in retaliation for a collision that caused the deaths of two children. Tyre Extinguishers, the movement aiming to make it “impossible to own an SUV” by deflating these vehicles’ tyres, has drawn the tragedy into its campaign and “takes responsibility” for destroying all the tyres on at least 60 vehicles at a dealership 170 miles from the collision site.
Yokohama Rubber has begun supplying original equipment tyres to the facelifted Porsche Cayenne. The SUV is fitted with Yokohama Advan Sport V107 tyres in the front axle dimension 285/40R22 110Y and rear size 315/35R22 111Y. The tyres feature Porsche’s NC0 mark on the sidewall, the symbol worn by all tyres that Porche approves as original equipment fitments.
The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), the trade body representing 12 tyre makers who operate 58 tyre-related manufacturing facilities in the USA, projects that its members will ship 325.4 million tyres in 2023. This figure represents a 2.0% decrease on the 332 million units delivered in 2022 and is also 2.2% lower than pre-pandemic 2019, when US tyre shipments totalled 332.7 million units.
When announcing expansion plans for its North American plant in January 2023, Nokian Tyres said it would increase the workforce to 475 by hiring 75 new employees. Indian online tyre retailer Tyresnmore.com is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Ceat Ltd. On 4 August, the tyre maker entered into a share purchase agreement with Tyresnmore Online Private Limited to acquire 108,637 equity shares in the business, an amount equal to a 39.34% of its total share capital.
The ContiConnect Live digital solution now offers remote, real time tyre monitoring for truck trailers. The system is equally suitable for freestanding and coupled trailers and utilises a telematics unit to record tyre sensor data and send it to the ContiConnect portal. This data provides continuous information about tyre inflation and temperature.
Michelin North America, Inc. and Boeing have signed a renewal of the two parties’ authorised distribution agreement, extending the current agreement through December 2028. The agreement reaffirms Boeing Distribution as a global distributor for Michelin’s full line of cross-ply and radial aviation tyres, as well as tubes for the business, commercial, regional, military and general aviation markets.
