Michelin to acquire Fenner PLC
Stating that such an acquisition would be “in perfect strategic alignment with its ambition to leverage its expertise in high-technology materials,” Michelin has announced its intention to purchase UK-based firm Fenner PLC.
Continental appoints Bahlmann successor
The unexpected death of Alexander Bahlmann last summer left a hole in the tyre industry and particularly at Continental, where he headed communications and public relations for the Tire division’s passenger car and light truck tyre business. It is only now, half a year later, that a successor has taken on the position vacant since Bahlmann’s passing. As of this month, Cordula Ressing is the new head of communications and public relations for Continental’s car and light truck tyre business.
Camso implementing aftermarket price increase
Prices for Camso tyres and tracked products sold through the company’s aftermarket business are set to rise by between one and six per cent. New pricing will be determined according to product line and region, and Camso says the change will be “rolled out based on market dynamics in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.”
Nokian Tyres appoints new VP of Investor Relations & Corporate Communications
From June 2018, Päivi Antola will take on the role of vice-president of Investor Relations & Corporate Communications at Nokian Tyres. She is joining the Finnish tyre maker from Amer Sports Corporation, where for the last eight years she has served as head of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations.
Goodyear launches Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 SUV
Another tyre has joined the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric range. This new addition is the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 SUV, a product Goodyear says was developed with a focus on optimised braking and handling in all conditions. The first size, 255/50 R19 107 Y XL, was released in February, and further dimensions will be added from next month. A total of 28 sizes for 18- to 22-inch rim diameters should be available by January 2019.
Taisne appointed Michelin’s Gastronomic & Tourist Activities director
Alexandre Taisne, who has been responsible for the Michelin Group’s strategy and development of gastronomic and tourist activities since April 2017, will also take responsibility for the Michelin Guide selections. His current role will expand as of 3 April 2018. Michael Ellis, Michelin Guide international director, and his inspection teams will report directly to him.
Mark Earl to lead Nokian Tyres’ Americas region
Nokian Tyres has appointed Mark Earl vice-president of its Americas business area. He will start in this position on 1 May 2018 and report to Hille Korhonen, the tyre maker’s president and chief executive officer.

Lighter and road-near – Michelin ready for Formula E season with new Pilot Sport
The new-generation Michelin Pilot Sport tyre set to debut in the 2018/19 Formula E season will be lighter, more energy efficient and bear an even closer resemblance to road tyres than the first-generation Michelin tyre. Its introduction accompanies changes to vehicle technical specifications that come into effect at the start of the all-electric racing series’ fifth season.
Avon’s expanding motorcycle tyre range
Having produced its first motorcycle tyres in 1911, British manufacturer Avon Tyres has had time aplenty to hone its range. The current Avon motorcycle tyre portfolio covers numerous bike applications, including road legal race and track day tyres, fitments for smaller capacity commuter bikes, classic, hypersport, adventure sport, custom, touring and cruiser motorcycle products. Avon has also introduced a line of inner tubes.
